I picked up two of these, they have the firing pin on the hammers, not a transfer bar. Is it okay to dry fire these or will I need to find some 32-20 snap-caps?
My understanding: It's OK, but you will be better off with snap caps. You don't wnat the hammer smacking up against the frame. Having the firing pin hit the cap allows some of the energy to be absorbed there, rather than all on the frame.
Answer #1 - There is no specific reason to Not dryfire it . It will be as durable as any SAA patern pistol of modern steel.
Answer #2 - It never hurts to go belt And suspenders. I was impressed to see .32-20 snap caps , but there they are in the above link. I guess there are just enough "gamey" SASS types to create demand.
PS , I really like .32-20 as long range field ctg and medimum game.
The 32-20 has a special place for me since the first gun I bought with my own money way back in 1989 was in 32-20. After I pick up my cartridge belt I'm going to get a couple of sets of those snap caps.
