Okay so I'm gunna get a 1911 next year for mah berfday. And have concluded on Wilson Combat, Les Baer or Ed Brown. So that's where my research stops me. I don't know jack about the upgrades to the 1911 platform. So here's what I want.
Rail besides the tacticool factor this will be a working gun. I'll throw a light on it for low-life situations.
Profile I want it to look like a normal 1911 so no rounded butts or angled butts on this pistol.
Sights I'm thinking Novaks but also want tritium do they make those and is there a way to get a red tritium front sight like I have set up on my shotgun?
Reliability I want this thing to run flawlessly after I bury it in the dirt for 5 years. Obviously thats an exaggeration but you get the idea. It also must feed hollow points and full metal jackets so I don't have to worry about what type of ammo I pick up.
Accurate I want it to shoot where I aim and be more accurate then me. I should be the weak link not the tool.
Finish I'd like it shipped bare metal so it can be Cerakoted.
    Frame must be steel.
I have no idea on internal or external extractors so someone school me please.

Nighthawk Custom. A friend has one that fits all of your needs I'm pretty sure. They make some fantastic 1911s. Good to hear your going big, gotta splurge in life my friend!

Also any recommendations on stuff like end mill cuts, arched or flat mainspring, and extended beaver tail and any other doodads.

Just make sure you buy one in 45ACP! But you better check the price of ammo before you do. If your going to shoot factory loaded ammo, be prepared to fork out even more cash. They can be expensive to shoot, if you are a frequent shooter, or get bit by the 45ACP bug.

I would steer away from external extractor version. JMB didnt use one on his design. I dont see the point of them, and an internal extractor is extremely easy to replace.

Extended beavertail is not a bad thing, if your hands or fingers are fat. Ive fired GI styles without being bit by the hammer, but I could see someone with thicker finger being able to get bit.

I cant stand all the tactical crap on a 1911. Get a decent target 1911,with good sights and shoot it silly without all the added junk, unless you plan on joining a SWAT team.

    Things you're going to want:
-Beavertail safety: makes the gun much more comfortable and takes away any chance of hammer bite.
-GI length guide rod: any benefit given by the full length is out weighed by how much more of a pain it makes it to field strip.

As for the rail, I don't like them on 1911's but that's just me. Sounds like you're looking at a $3k gun so make sure it's what you want.

Because it'll be so expensive it'll be my only handgun for a while. Hence the rail for a light. It will be a social pistol.

you cant go wrong with a baer, nighthawk, wilson, or brown.

with baer, the way i see it is he tries to give you the most reliable\accurate pistol for the cheapest price. if your willing to give up mirror finishes and the absence of toolmarks for a resonable price then look no further.

brown is also a more "entry level" custom. dont get me wrong they are amazing, but if you look at there line, he tends to keep things basic mostly just changing finishes and slide serrations.

between nighthawk and wilson, it really comes down to personal preference. both make outstanding pistols and have wide verieties to choose from. they seem to show the best craftsmenship of them all, but also come with some hefty price tags.

when i save up enough to buy myself a full fledged custom i think im gonna go with volkmann. you should check him out if your not in a rush to get it. http://www.volkmannprecision.com/

as far as finish is concerned, most custom shops will finish the gun however you want, so you might just want to get that done in the factory.

as far as sights, i like heinie straight eights. one dot on top of the other. there are alot of different tritium options but ive never heard of red. who knows?
ive never seen a custom 1911 with external extractors, but dont even worry about it. internal are prefered, but external can work just as well.

just a disclaimer. i dont know much and i have VERY little experience. what little knowledge i have comes from extensive research online. i have wanted a custom 1911 for a few years know so ive had time to read up on them. i hope this helps.

I think the second one is what I'm looking for in a 1911 but I'm not too sure about this extra marks in front of the Magwell. And of course it will be in 45 ACP I don't plan on committing sacrilegious acts

I have the Baer custom carry and it by far has been the best damn pistol I've ever shot, it truly is amazing! I was in the same boat and for me and my personal choice I went with the Baer and couldn't be more pleased.

I know it's the busy time of year but maybe we can get together sometime and you can check it out. I shoot alot at free state but have known to make it up your way so maybe we can have a little meet and shoot at bollingers or something if they'd wanna hang out and allow us to do so.

I posted a couple of pics in the 1911 gun porn thread but the pictures are crap and do it no justice and until you shoot such a pistol you just don't know, LOL!

Please don't buy a 1911 because it has a magpul instructors name scratched into it. I think Ed brown and nighthawk make more of what you are looking for. An old school 1911, updated. Right?

Haven't you heard I'm a Magpul whore? JK I wouldn't buy anything just because it has someone's name on it. If it matched my criteria and my aesthetics cause IMHO 1911s are a beautiful gun. So yeah I'm looking for a "2011" so to speak a 1911 developed for use a working gun that still looks pretty.

Trust me, you don't want a "2011". They exist. Rock Island makes them. They are ugly as sin. Like if Glock made a 1911.

Looks like those stupid Baer monolith atrocities. I swear one day at the factory the mill broke and someone was like "well, this is the best we can do, give it a name and charge for the extra metal on the slide"

I'd love too! The only issue I have with FreeState is that I'm only 20 and need someone else to sign for me to shoot. But a meet and shoot at Bollingers would work too. I'll PM you my cell.

I shot a friend's Les Baer and it was AMAZING! He carries it and has shot thousands of rounds through it without any issues.

Held a Nighthawk at a gun shop and it was as nice as the Baer.

I'm saving for a Baer of my own.
