Both the Colt and S&W 1917's are really fun the shooters. It's very cool to shoot a piece of history.

I have owned one of them for 30+ years. One of my absolute favorite revolvers. When I shoot it, it tells me I have a piece of history in my hand.

Beauty, I inherited a Colt 1917 from my dad who carried it as a MP in the Army. When they switch over to the Semi-auto he was able to purchase his. Back in 2012 I made custom grips to replace the originals that had a big crack in one side. When you shot one of these 45's you know you have a real firearm and not just another hand gun. Thanks for sharing! :patriot:

I was looking for a decent 1917 for years, but ended up with a Smith Model of 1955 when I came upon it for a good price. 45 acp is a great caliber in a revolver though I would not have thought so before shooting one.

The .45 ACP shot from a revolver has a distinctly different sound than being fired from a pistol. The barrel/cylinder gap has something to do with it...an extra place for gases and noise to escape.

FYI, if you feel the urge to put her to work doing any kind of modern action style shooting, Comp Tac makes a holster for a S&W N-Frame that might look a little weird, but works just fine:innocent0
