Did any of you apply for your permit in 2012 after Judge Legg ruled against Maryland’s good and substantial reason clause, but were ultimately denied because of the stay he issued a few weeks later?

The reason I ask is because this go-round, when it asks if I’ve ever been denied, I had to answer YES and explain the whole thing with the stay.

Really hoping that doesn’t create any issues with my latest application. I still have the MSP letter they sent me explaining that was the reason I was denied.

Were you "Denied", or "Not Approved"? The specific language used makes a big difference.

I and others were among the Woollard 365.

It was not correct to say "Yes". If you read the letter, you were not denied. The word "deny" nor "denied" does not appear in the letter.

The MSP wrote that letter to you, and the MSP made the questions.

Well I guess I ****** up my application then. I have to double check the letter but I’m guessing it says not approved (and not denied). Is there any way I can update my application???

Word games and making everything confusing are great ways of screwing people over. Good luck man. That's some BS on top of BS.

It will be addressed by the investigator once they are assigned to your application. You'll be contacted, you'll explain, and you should be just fine.

I was one of the 365 and answered NO to the question due to the word game reasons. I was approved this morning.

I also applied after the Judge Legg ruling. I also answered Yes to the permit denied question, and gave a brief explanation.

I was Not contacted. My permit Was approved.

It won’t have any bearing on your application. States that ask this are looking for histories of dangerousness, substance abuse, or other behavioral factors that led to one’s denial, not because they couldn’t satisfy being special enough for a subjectively enforced permitting scheme.

Well that’s good news! I found the letter and they do use the word “denied” in the cover letter, but not in the official decision letter, which says “disapproved.”

What was the overall turnaround time for your application?

DOsniper: you are not alone brother. I'm in the same situation.
But have not lost any sleep over the choice of words. MSP refusal
over "lack of G&S" was their primary reason for using whatever words they
    choose.
I still have a hard place for their "NOT DISAPPROVED" on legal transfers.
I believe that choice of words to be legal mumbo-jumbo such that MSP can't be legally attacked for a "Approval" stamp. Just my 2 cents.....

Here is my decision letter after the 4CA overturned Judge Legg. Please notice the bolded word DISAPPROVED.. Although it does not seem to be an issue now, MSP used the word DISAPPROVED for a reason. As noted disapproval is not a denial

If asked on subsequent applications from other states, you can truthfully answer you have not been denied

    IANAL

PS Yes I know my PII is on the letter. I no longer live at that address.

And BTW Froshhole we won. Got my permit July 23. Eff you

I moved to Carroll County to experience America, not the Gulag Montgomery
