We should all write them a can-did letter addressing how ridiculous an idea this is.

And good luck finding anything canned in 8 ounce weights.

Cept fer tomato paste which I think are 6 ounce cans.

How about the #10 can full of water and suspended above the door opening trick?

    Is this for real?

You are admitting to "arming" kids....what does the schools attorney say when one of your students attack another student with the "weapon" you allowed them to bring in.

I guess if a mass murderer encountered 20 kids throwing cans at them it might slow him down?

Teaching kids defense is a good practice. Maintaining good security is a good practice. Allowing responsible teachers to discretely arm themselves is a good practice. Expecting soup to be a mass shooter panacea is going full retard...

Some instructors do teach to rush an attacker (including getting the students to as well) and to throw stuff at them. Rob Pincus has videos on this.

I've made several calls and no will confirm anything, all passing the buck.

I left a message with Ms. Weldon, the director of the Burns school. 334-864-9343 x232

Sorry, but I lol'd picturing Home Alone.I'd rather have an 8oz. can of fruit cocktail than hide under my desk but I'm not an 8 yr. old in second grade either (I've seen my daughter throw :sad20:)

I think that the typical public school cafeteria food would make for a more effective attack weapon than canned goods...

Better than run and hide for sure but you better hope those kids get their cans in the air pretty quick. Most of them are taught to be afraid of guns anyway so when the first shot is fired in the classroom the sheer surprise of that noise in an enclosed room will make most of them drop whatever is in their hands and soil their underoos.

Still, I'd rather they are taught to fight than to be prey.

There isn't enough of it, after following Michelle Obama's menu template.

Right. Bring in a can of butter beans to defend yourself and get written up because they're not low sodium. You watch, they will circle back and start regulating what kind of cans you can bring in...

Would this be considered high capacity or would it need to be a 12 pack?

Only the military and police should have Assault Cans.

Only a matter of time before some student throws their can at another or a teacher. Then there will be a "Zero-Tolerance" policy on possession of canned food items on school grounds. little Timmy will be arrested for bring a can of peaches for lunch. :sad20: :sad20: :sad20:

I think the bigger idea here is to give the students a sense of security and control over a situation that they really don't have any control over. For that reason I see the value in the idea. God forbid this scenario ever played out, it would quickly become apparent how impractical and ineffective it would be. But for the mean time it might make students feel a little more comfortable.
I guess I need to pack a can of beans in my range bag the next time I take my kids to the range :D
