It’s sunny and 30 degrees…the wind is blowing. 7 skeet and trap ranges, and one five stand and wobble are ALL full of excited shooters. There’s a fire in the clubhouse fireplace where people are having a good time while warming up, and sharing their experiences.
Oh… it’s NOT Calvert County’s Skeet and Trap Club!! It’s Loch Raven Skeet and Trap Club--- all the way up in Phoenix, MD.
Come on Calvert County commissioners!!!!! Provide some jobs, generate some tax revenue, provide a shooting venue that can provide all of this and be a Calvert County destination for recreation. Provide a conduit for the people of Calvert to share ideas and work with you to make this possible.

It is totally irrational the way things are. We have a golf course that is under used but no shooting range. We have Solomon's Island and lots of fishing so any additional tourist draw would have a multiplier effect. We have several motels and many restaurants looking for year round customers. There is a perfect place for a range in Calvert County, the land fill. It is a huge area of land surrounded by heavily wooded areas. Just check the Google map aerial view. PERFECT, it already has controlled access at a gate. Note the following:

    1. Large area well protected by heavily wooded areas. Very safe.

    2. Wooded areas provide noise abatement.

3 Landfills aren't good for development. Too many environmental and geotechnical problems. Some are used for golf courses but we already have one. Does the County have a long term viable plan for this landfill? I doubt it.

    4. Abundant supply of soil for berms.

    5. Perfect location for a 400 yard rifle range. A 400 yard range properly run would draw in shooters from hundreds of miles around, particularly if a good venue of shooting events was planned along with it.

    6. Easy to put up a 100 yard rifle range and a pistol range.

    7. Other shooting sports that could be considered include archery, skeet and trap.

Just think of what it would mean to the County to have another large tourist draw. People would come to shoot but would also make use of restaurants and lodging. It is also likely that such sportsmen would want to go fishing. It is a win win, the multiplier effect. They might even play some golf. It would also add to Calvert County as not only being a tourist destination but also as a good place to retire.

Maybe then the 2 of you could hook up, purchase the land, get the permits, develop it and split whatever profits arise. Leave the taxpayers out of the loop.
