Finally got my newest coyote rig together. F4 sf10 in 243 in battle steel. 20 in Bartlein, rugged micro 30, Trijicon mk3 60. Took a little bit to get it straight but this ol girl will sling em now.

Here's my Daniel Defense M4A1 with a heavy SOCOM-profile barrel to make it MD-compliant. Last year, I decided to set up this gun as a clone of the rifle from the "Sicario" movies (because I'm a big fan) - reference picture from "Sicario: Day of the Soldado" attached. It's not an especially practical or modern setup (by 2020s standards), but I liked how it looked in the movie and thought it would be a unique (and fun) clone project.

    Parts used:
    - Daniel Defense M4A1 w/ SOCOM barrel (from Brownell's)
    - EOTech 553 in flat dark earth
    - Surefire M720V RAID (black) w/ ST07 pressure pad/switch
    - Troy Battle Sights
    - Daniel Defense vertical grip (NOTE: movie gun has either a TangoDown or KAC vert grip, depending on film)
    - Radian Raptor charging handle (NOTE: movie gun has a regular USGI charging handle)
    - Magpul ladder rail covers in flat dark earth

Before I did this clone project: The gun was fitted with my Aimpoint PRO, an FDE Surefire 600DF, and Daniel Defense fixed sights.
Solid set up. I’ve got similar. That SOCOM DD upper is wicked accurate for what it is. If all hell broke lose, my SOCOM DD would be what I’d grab.

Lol, not practical??? I think it very practical and a cool build.

I fail to find anything "impractical" here. You run what you like.

Haha, yes, maybe "practical" isn't the best choice of words - I mostly just meant to acknowledge that my choice of rail + accessories makes it fairly heavy compared to a more modern AR setup, like my BCM mid-length. I see many in the AR community who tend to associate weight with practicality.

Same here. Much as the gun laws in MD suck, I'm glad that it's still possible to own SOPMOD Block II-style rifles in MD (though of course I'd rather have one with a GOV barrel than a SOCOM barrel), because they're pretty much the ultimate SHTF rifles. Even if I wasn't a "Sicario" fan, I still wanted to have a Block II-style AR in my gun safe because of their durability and GWOT-era service reputation.

BTW, have you ever posted pics of your DD M4A1 Block II setup on this forum?

Here’s mine. It’s not really a clone, I just really like the upper. It runs an A5 buffer tube. I’ve since upgraded the Streamlight to a Surefire 640DF, running tailcap only.

Edit: adding a few of my others that I’ve posted before but figured you’d like to see them.

Here's my BCM rifle setup, which has just received the MD-compliant treatment from the good folks at Engage Armament. Setup is as follows:

    - BCM MK2 Recce-14 w/ MCMR-13 handguard and cold hammer-forged HBAR barrel
    - BCM SOPMOD Mod 1 stock
    - Trijicon MRO HD
    - Inforce WML Gen2
    - ScalarWorks front sight tower
    - Magpul MBUS Pro rear sight
    - Vickers Combat Applications sling

Looks good but I’m confused. Why do you need an MD compliant HBAR if you’re in Arlington, VA?

Loving them all, and the Block II setup is very nice without being over-complicated (though I can't imagine running a Pic rail gun without rail covers, even though I shoot with my gloves on). I like how you have so many of the same guns I do - e.g., a BCM upper with an MCMR rail, and a Colt 6920 SOCOM.

My BCM upper is built around a 16 inch Criterion middy. Used a blem BCM upper and the MCMR rail. Geissele guts in the lower, A5 buffer tube, etc etc. It shoots absolutely lights out. I run pretty much exclusively BCM or DD BCG's, with the exception of the Colt.

Yeah, with the exception of my BCM (now that I have the Engage barrel in it), all of my guns have matching barrels and BCGs (my DD has DD barrel and BCG, my Colt has Colt barrel and BCG, etc.) I was always told that it's a good idea for them to match.

BTW, how do you like that Nightforce ATACR? That's my dream optic for my own BCM carbine, but right now, I can't afford it. I also feel like I need to get a cheaper LPVO first before I get chin-deep into the magnified optics game - right now, I only have trigger time on reflex optics.

It's the Nightforce NX8 1-8x, not the ATACR. That said, I absolutely love it. It is amazing when you consider it's size and weight. Red dot bright illumination and crystal clear optics.

I personally don't purposefully match my BCG's. My Block ii upper rocks a BCM because it was in stock and the DD wasn't. Matching brands does not matter, so long as they headspace correctly. That said, I won't swap bolts between barrels once they have been shot together (as in, their surfaces worked into each other), unless I absolutely had to. I also have a few spare BCM bolts, firing pins, cam pins, cotter pins, and springs handy in the safe.

Gotcha. And yeah, what you say makes sense. I was always told that it's ideal to match brands between barrel and BCG, but admit that the person who told me that was not a gunsmith.

Also - here's my usual setup for my Daniel Defense M4A1: Aimpoint PRO, B5 SOPMOD stock in coyote tan, and Magpul AFG2. As it turns out, my setup is quite similar to what Clint from Classic Firearms runs on his YouTube channel - though I actually started running my gun this way before he did! (Disclaimer: Not with the SOPMOD stock; for a while, I ran this exact setup with the factory stock, and also DD fixed iron sights.)

I dig it. I had an Aimpoint PRO but it didn't work for me with my astigmatism. Holographic sights tend to work just fine, as does my Aimpoint T2, but the PRO was unusable to my eyes.

I really like this stock. Very comfortable. It is on my .300 BO. I just got the Gen 2 HERA stock and will put it on another of my ARs.
