I'd argue that their reason to move was purely on SB281 (the straw that broke the camels back as it were), and if you ARE going to move anyway, why not move to the most hospitable place for this business.

I think this is probably the most accurate picture of what happened. They've been in Accokeek since the 1970s and seen plenty of political machinations over the decades. If you recall, they moved their warehousing operations to the Fredericksburg, VA area after earlier spasm of gun-control legislation. When SB281 occurred, it only made sense to find the "most hospitable place" for their manufacturing.

Who could blame them for working to get the most advantageous deal?

It's one thing to say "I'll move if the deal is good" and another matter to say "I'm moving, now who has the best deal".

I hope the week they leave maryland Beretta has a huge moving sale! It would be great to see them flood the market with their guns as they roll out.
I don't believe they sell to the general public at their plant but, maybe they could bring in a few local ffl's and have a massive sidewalk sale of guns at cost. I doubt this would ever happen. It would be an extra kick in the nuts to all that voted for sb281.

Their shipping warehouse is already in VA. If they sell anything, it is going to be production equipment, 80s era CNC mills etc.

I heard from a reliable source that Under Armor is heading to TX. Wonder how many jobs that will cost....
    No way.
The Planks are buying up property left and right in Baltimore. UA owns all of the land under their headquarters. Under Armour is booming, despite a deflated economy. They constantly make light of their MD heritage and support local schools and businesses. UA isn't going anywhere.

An expansion? I can see that.

The Wash post article on Beretta's move was disgusting and as usual biased towards an overly liberal point of view (surprise).

    Whatever happened to objective reporting?

Sadly, you're completely correct about that screed. They completely buried the fact that the biggest product coming out of that plant is the official sidearm of the U.S. armed forces. To read the first few sentences one would think they're producing some kind of kiddie porn quoting an activist who opines “But a lot of other people have been disturbed that this huge gun factory is right here, extremely close to a lot of children and families.” And then there's Parris Glendenning who's quoted about resistance to "reasonable gun control" as if it's a statement of obvious fact without any chance for rebuttal.

It's hugely telling that in the 37 years that they've been located in PG County that no county executive ever bothered to visit the site and talk to the firm which has been employing citizens and paying taxes.

Maryland doesn't deserve to have their business in the state. Good luck to them in Tennessee!
