They have to move as I understand it - if that rule stayed in the final Bill - the one that said if you build certain firearms and then finish them - The second they are finished you are a FELON. Else, you don't make those firearms - and just make BB Guns.

I don't care what's in the Bill, what was left in it, Amendments, it's all meaningless. Was just a rhetorical question - so no need to correct me, if it was inaccurate.

My fear is Beretta is closing up shop and have italy do all the work and just be a importer like may others are.

In Italy? I don't think so. They have strikes and shut things down on a regular basis; that's OK if you don't have serious govt contracts and all; but while they're more than capable of putting out a line of fine shotguns, say, for discretionary consumer purchase, serious warfighting materiel requires serious production lines. Pretty much why they're in the US to start with.

Don't get me wrong: Italy is a fine place, but they have a very Mediterranean outlook on life.

To Give you a real prospective of how big the production lines are and the shear size of Beretta Italy . In the late 80's they employeed just over 24000 employees to Beretta USA's 400 today ( Closer to 700 hundred then). Beretta Italy at the time of the M9 contracts was on the verge of a large scale lay off ( Due to Lack of work) They wanted the M9 contract bad !! A group of some very dedicated people are to thank for it not leaving the U.S.

I stand corrected. Thanks for the inside picture.

I dunno. That's kind of how I read it at first, but at the same time, that was just the reporter's interpretation. We should know officially as soon as MOM signs the bill, because that's when they're statement is prepared for.

The satellite office only makes sense. It'll be a long, slow move out of MD, but it will probably eventually happen.

Beretta is going to keep making what it makes in Maryland but won't expand here is what I'm hearing from a few friends of mine that work at Beretta. I was hoping they would go to King George- employees make out, Virgina makes out and Maryland loses; win, win, win!!

Beretta upgraded some of its IT network as recently as this month so I don't think they are going any where any time soon.

If this is true thats unfortunate. No Beretta products for me. . .ever.

    Where they send me.
For those of you who want to boycott Beretta for staying in md.

Have you moved out of state yet?
One can't expect a business to do things on short notice anymore than you are going to pack up and leave the state. I would LOVE to leave md. However, things make that a really bad option for me now.

Agreed. They should just stop selling to the State/LEO's like many other manufacturers. Moving would take several years anyway, and what if, in the meantime, much of this gets overturned in court or repealed?

For a company like this, things aren't black and white. I think what they said made sense to me. They are going to not expand in MD. That would reward MoM and punish us. So they are going to expand in another state, one friendly to them and us. Once they get established that will probably allow incremental movement out of MD without impacting their bottom line. If MD's new law gets overturned in the courts then they can stay too which is good for their loyal employees.

If they were do a drastic move now it could put the company out of business, not good for them or us. However, they can use this as a lever to benefit the overall industry, if played right. They can also support legislaturors who support the cause.

If they become stupif in the future I can see boycott, but they haven't gotten there yet just as the law hasn't gotten here yet. Let's not jump the gun. They may think the law will get overturned too.
