I like the ultra light AR; the 35 pounder - not so much. :)

I do foresee one of these in my future.... :D

    Yep...

    From Paul...

"Designed by Eric Kincel (VP of BCM product development). It is heavier where you need it to dissipate heat, but lighter where you don't.
Fluted and non-fluted versions. BFH versions of the same in summer of 2014.
The barrel will only work for RECCE builds. We got rid of the silly hump for handgaurd caps (terrible for barrel harmonics, and unnecessary weight).
It will be an awesome pair up with the super light weight KMR handguards. The lightweight rifle almost feels like a toy :-)

Will be available in 16" and 14.5" mid lengths.

The computer software says the ELW will offer the same weight as a pencil barrel, while the ELW-Fluted is lighter by 2oz. Please don't hold me to it until we get actual samples on a scale.
Keep in mind its going to feel like a LW barrel but should handle heat similar to a Gov profile barrel. (it may even "feel" lighter than a LW barrel as the weight is more to the rear than forward on the muzzle)
But either way its a major improvement for guys who like LW barrels. And the performance may even convert a lot of guys who prefer mid weight. "

I don't think you even need to get a polymer lower. My Core 15 carbine is VERY light. I don't know where they got the weight off, but it is only but a tad bit heavier than my plastic M&P 15-22.

My current mid length is a .223 Wylde from RRA. Accurate, but damn that thing is heavier than my Stag Model 8 with all that weight up front to support the piston action.

    I am...... Interested.

Wow. I thought I'd be happy with the AR's I have, but I want one.....

Too bad I didn't buy any lowers....

Sell my upper and get this one? Probably not. Not at this time anyways.

Take back MD in 2014!!!! so I don't have to make all these silly decisions and can just buy another AR from BCM.

I'll pass. I like my ARs like my women, front heavy.

Just kidding. Hopefully, these are stronger than the Fortis rails.

not a matter of strength, it's a matter of remembering you bought a setup geared toward lightness, and to not be so dumb as to put a brake or compensator under the handguard. ;)

Hiking up and down mountains with just a standard M4, M68 and KAC handguard equipped, can get pretty shitty. Obviously you do what the job requires, but....having an extra pound shaved off can do amazing things.
