Well, MSP's latest missive said it must be cosmetically similar AND have interchangeable parts to be a copy.

    thoughts?

MSP is relying on the AG letter from 2010 regarding copies of the Colt AR-15 where MSP was taking the position that an AR lookalike in .22lr was a copy. The AG pretty much said it wasn't because the parts were not interchangeable. Only thing that isn't interchangeable on this rifle is the mag, which might very well be enough to get one over the copy hump.

If it has a bullet button, the mag is interchangeable, as are the mag catch parts. Not the SAME, but interchangeable.

Yep, somewhat perplexing that it can have a bullet button AND a fixed magazine.

Question is, does the bullet button put the magazine outside the definition of "detachable magazine" as it is in the Md Code?

    (f) “Detachable magazine” means an ammunition feeding device that can be removed readily from a firearm without requiring disassembly of the firearm action or without the use of a tool, including a bullet or cartridge.

Well, it can't be removed without a bullet or a tool.

The bullet button wes designed to get around such non nonsensical laws.

Would thts be sold as a regular long gun, ie you could cash and carry it home the same day, or would there be a 7 day waiting period and HQL reguired?

There is no 7 day wait for any long gun. If it is a long gun, it is now cash and carry.

A Short Barrel Rifle ("SBR") is considered a handgun, which would probably require a HQL. However, this rifle at BPS has a 16" barrel so it is not a SBR, which would require a tax stamp which takes months to receive.

Well, a cash and carry purchase of a firearm like this would be a bonus for us, versus having to get a HQL, waiting 7 days, and making 2 trips to the dealer.

This is the only bonus I know of from SB 281...of course when the people in Annapolis see this in the BPS circular, they may come back and tighten things up even more in the next GA.
