I'm pretty sure the AR-15 came from a conspiracy by accessory manufacturers to boost their business (yes that was a joke). I can't think of too many firearms with this level of popularity that are modified on such a regular basis, and can be done as cheaply or expensively as one desires.

Rails, quad rails, free float quad rails, risers, VFG/AFG, scopes, sights, BUIS, offset iron sights, QD mounts, cantilevers, flashlights, flash hiders, muzzle brakes...

My current mods are YHM free float quad rail, 130 lumen tac light on the right rail, holo-sight up top, and AFG2 on the bottom.

Looking at adding Magpul MBUS Gen 2 in a co-witness. Eventually I'd like to get the trigger replaced with a Geissele, though I'm thinking of replacing my stock first (currently giving a strong look at the Magpul ACS-L).

My first 2 AR's, I modded more than I should admit. Spent WAY more than I should have.

Last couple one's have been home builds, 2 that I kept within a budget, and 2 that have blown the budget to hell.

Add everything up, I probably could've been into a Class III by now. Damn.

My first is a kiss. I put an eotech 512 on for ease of use and standard batteries I can find anywhere. That has been the most expensive "upgrade". Other than that its basic. No rail on the front, just moe handguard for comfort and add ons if I ever want. I love it as it. My second one I'm working on now will be a little more precision oriented but this one has been accurate enough for me

My BRO 300blk is probably going to be close without optics:

    Approximate values most pre-panic

    BRO Receiver set $420
    Phase 5 BAD lever $60
    BCM Gunfighter Charging Handle $45
    R-Guns BCG $150
    LWRC LPK $190
    Magpul MIAD Grip $30
    Magpul RVG $25
    Barrel $200
    Rail System $300
    YHM QD Muzzle Break $95
    Weaponoutfitters QD Protector $90
    Magpul BUIS $95
    Magpul ACS Stock $100
    Misc parts another $200

Total is about 2000 before optics.

My Seekins Billet will probably be the same.

My Seekins forged will probably fall into the $1500 before optics

My Spikes will probably be close to $2000 after I get it cerakoted.
