Was looking at signing up for my first IDPA match this weekend and noticed that the normal Saturday match is on Sunday and it's a Steel Match. Having never participated, other than my safety class and observation day, what should I expect?

The guys are great at AAFG and they just posted they have spots available for this weekend. But if you want to do a safe and informal steel challenge shoot, Delta Peach Bottom Fish and Game has one on Sunday. AGC is sponsoring a steel challenge the same day as well. Too many options. LOL

It will be a standard steel challenge match. It will not look like an IDPA match.

Rules and standard stage descriptions are here

The match will probably have 5 of the 8 standard steel challenge stages in the rules along with one stage of AAFG design.

Here's a video of someone shooting a match.

It's a great intro to action pistol shooting.

Keep your gun cased until the safety brief then they'll help you with everything else you need to know.

    Enjoy.

I shot one of the AAFG SC matches once. Had a good time. Just got done with 3 days of training with Max Michel in Steel Challenge. Around 1200 rounds over 3 days.

Wasn't able to make the steel challenge, but did make it out today. Had a blast and everyone from the competitors to the RSO's were wonderful and helpful. I will be back!
