Is it just me? Or does this whole HQL process seem to be going way to smoothly for what one would expect out of the State of MD???

Anybody else get the feeling they are just trying really hard to "shore up" their case in the coming lawsuit?

Just an observation that has peaked my interest. Call me "suspicious".

ETA: I have no regrets in getting mine.

Ayup. Did you see the processing charts and analysis blacksmith and I posted last night over in the backlog thread? Tells an interesting story.

Oh I guarantee that is exactly what they are doing, and I think the proof was in allowing 9-30 purchases to be picked up post 9-30 without an HQL.

Why was it taking 100+ days for a less stringent background check Pryor to 10/1? And now this one is taking less than a week?

Objective A: make it as painfully difficult for people to get their guns pre 10/1 to deter as many people as possible from putting more guns into the hands of Marylanders before our next super strict law takes effect.

Objective B: make our new law seam as streamline as possible as to not infringe on anyone's rights. And show how much better this one is vs the previous. Annnnddd we're saving more lives by keeping these guns out of criminals hands. Even tho its a BS hassle that will deter tens of thousands of people. Look at how many active gun enthusiasts on this board alone that refuse to jump through their hoops. Does anyone really believe someone who's not really into guns is going to go through these measures? Hell, I offered to buy my father in law a lower. His response. Id like one, but I'm not going through all that hassle

As much as we hope these people are dumb. They are not.

If you ask me. Everything they've done this year has worked out perfectly for them

***I dunno - maybe. I know quite a few people at my IWLA chapter, most of whom shoot, and I am one of the VERY few that have gone through the HQL process.

I was also at the dealership yesterday for service and there were a couple of guys talking about removing cosmoline from old surplus guns (YES!!! in Maryland, MoCo no less!!!). So, after whipping out my MoCo compliant Engage Armament recycling bag to which we all got a laugh about, I asked if either of them had gone through the HQL process and neither knew anything about the requirement, nor the new restrictions from SB281, etc... They both own handguns, as well as modern sporting rifles but neither knew anything about what has happened in Maryland. My best guess is the HQL process has been smooth precisely because so few people have signed up compared with the onslaught of purchases before 9/30 this year from folks better informed.

Well, were they pissed? Are they gonna fight? Did you get any traction with Dino'ing them?

Because the HQL is just collecting your personal info for the database. Government is efficient at that. The real background check still happens at point of purchase. I wonder if that's improved any. Like the NSA, it's too much to look at coming in, just when you become "a person of interest" they have the pool to sift through for what they want.

The opposition may be a bunch of narcissistic asshat control-freaks, but they aren't stupid. You can bet they've diverted substantial resources to get a tangible number of HQLs out the door. They know a 2A infringement challenge is imminent, and they're going to do their best to destroy the plaintiff's claims.

If they can demonstrate a working HQL process, they can kill the accusation of "defacto handgun ban." That's probably the one they fear most, as it's pretty obvious that one exists if MSP isn't issuing HQLs. If they can knock that down to an argument over the merits of handgun licensing, they at least have a leg to stand on.

I would expect everyone who was tasked with doing pre-10/1 background checks is currently on HQL duty. Once the injunction threat is eliminated, MSP can go back to dragging their feet on both.

I was thinking the same thing. Fodder for the law suits. I don't buy the less stringent part. The MSP still looks at all of the DB's and determines if you are eligible. I watched mine go from nothing to completed and active in a day.

I saw one of the new 77r's yesterday. Right on top is the place for your HQL number. My guess is the will check that and run another quick check. It's all BS. As of a couple of days ago, I think I saw some one post that they had number HQL number >500

BTW even with your HQL, you still cant buy. The new forms are so jacked up, dealers cant use them. They are missing page 2 and according to who I was talking to, the MSP is out of them.

Some of us have been talking about this for 2 weeks, just not loudly.

I'm sure the train ride to Auschwitz also went smoothly.

Fourteen posts to a Godwin. Slower than I'd expect. Sadly, appropriate. MD is so annoying. I hope we can change it; fortunately there's still places to go, if escape becomes necessary.

In addition to information lets not forget the money they collect.

Hardly anybody I talk to outside this forum has any idea what has been happening in Annapolis.

I wonder if you can purchase a handgun and submit the paperwork, (since you have the HQL number), then go pick it up (after 7 days) once you have the actual card in your possession.
