J&G Sales has the Type 53 for $99 described as " Overall good condition, with dark but shootable bores, a blue/patina finish, mismatched numbers, and stock that show wear and service and may have minor cracks."

They also have the M44 at $179 with the Description "Overall nice very good condition, arsenal refinished, with dark but shootable bores, some with counterbore, nice blued finish, and solid wood stock. Good looking rifles. "

Any thoughts from the C&R Crowd on these two? They both sound like shooters, with the M44 sounding like it might have a better chance of not blowing up in my face.

Thanks for the assist, that was my instinct on this as well, but I know I'm ignorant on these old late-19th->early-20th Century Rifles.

I'd do the M44 without the extra 30 dollar hand pick. It shouldn't affect the accuracy unless the bore is totally trashed, which is very unlikely. All the M44's coming in lately have had good bores.
