30 day wait question

Filled out paperwork for m&p on 12/29 and picked up the gun on 1/16/13. Is the 30 day wait from the 29th or when I picked up the gun after being "not disapproved?" Can I purchase a new firearm (regulated) prior to the 30 day period knowing the paperwork is so backed up that I wouldnt't hear back for around 30 days anyways? Thanks in advance.

30 days from when you took possession like what what said above. I would go ahead and do the paperwork for the new firearm now. The wait for the background check is about 3 weeks now so it'll be after 30 days when your papers come back anyway.
