Alright guys, I'm considering picking up another handgun, only this time I'd like to pick up something in a .22lr caliber. I understand that I could just get a .22lr conversion kit for my Sig, but I think I'd rather have two guns instead. Originally, I was looking into a Sig Mosquito but I may use this opportunity to diversify my collection some. I've heard good things about the Walther p22 but I wanted to check here with the masses, first.

I'm looking for something fun to shoot, compact, and inexpensive (would consider used firearms as well). Any suggestions?

I really enjoy the p22. Out of the box there were a few FTEs, but after a few hundred rounds this appears to of stopped. Accuracy is great, for a short barrel and extremely open rear sight. I don't believe it will out shoot long barreled target guns, but it's light, fun, and for training purposes it feels a lot more like a PD weapon than some of the specialized tack drivers out there.

I have a lot of 22's. The one that gets the most use (and is nearly indestrucible) is the stainless Ruger Mk II. My $ .02 :)

staring at one hole after 20 shots gets kinda boring. ;)

Practice rapid (more rapid?) fire, and/or move the target further back :)

    Love my Mark III 22/25!

It has eaten minimags, winchester bricks and remington bricks like a champ!

I have a S&W 22A that is a bunch of fun to shoot. Has the random FTF with brick ammo but seems like that is pretty much normal for that type of ammo.

Are you looking to eventually buy a silencer?

Are you looking to do target shooting, or just something for fun?

    Revolver or semi-auto?

Do you want something new and easy to find or are you ok looking for an older gun?

If I had to buy a new .22lr handgun, I'd look at a few guns first: (and probably in that order)

    Ruger Mk III
    Browning Buckmark
    Walther P22
    Sig Mosquito

Or, if I wanted a revolver, a Ruger Single Six would be nice.

A revolver would be fun, but I think I want a semi auto. Easy to find. Thinking of a Mosquito or P22.
