I'm heading out for WVa opener on Monday. We've been seeing a few toms strutting around. Last year was very windy and I couldn't get them to respond.

I’m going to scout tomorrow afternoon, then Tuesday morning and Wednesday morning in the woods to listen for gobbles at dawn. Rain in the forecast for Wednesday and Thursday so we’ll see how it goes. I’ve got rain gear

Welp, life has me busy so just got out this morning to scout. Disappointed. Was in the woods at 0530, didn’t hear a single gobble. After about 7am I tried some owl, tried some crow, couldn’t elicit a single response. Public land. Scouted this spot last year and came close to connecting on a gobbler but never was able to seal the deal. With today’s results, my outlook for opening morning doesn’t look great.

What they do one day can totally be the opposite the next. I have heard them go to roost gobbling their heads off. The next morning? Nada. Had no gobbling at roost time and gobbling like crazy the next morning. I wouldnt be too discouraged yet.

Yup. I always say, you can do the same thing five days in a row and the turkeys won't like it. All of a sudden, on the sixth day, they're trying to climb into your lap.

I really like this guy. He gives very good advice on turkey hunting...

Impatiently waiting for morning. Lost my most productive property, but I should still have a shot if they are close.

I went and looked at one of our fields and saw a few running around out there.+ a dam white deer.
Ive got a blind directly to the left of where these guys are hanging out in the afternoon so I'm going to go Saturday I think. Maybe I can call one in if I'm lucky early in the day.
They usually roost back there behind it and there's just enough room to plant a decoy at the edge of the cover and to the wheat.
I got so excited I even camoed up the blind front so when I poke my head out of there they'll think I'm a fire breathing tree branch.

... and if you have a new, dark shiny truck or car still with temporary tags on it you should keep it in the garage if there are Turkeys around...

Ask me how I know ($2500 later)......
