can you all recommend a good 1911 gunsmith.

    I have a '56 1911 colt govt. model.

I don't know the history of the colt but the extractor hook is broken, so fitting a new one and inspecting the rest of parts is what I'm looking to have done.

I'm in Salisbury and wouldn't mind driving an hour or so for a good 1911 smith.

    thanks

Actually for what you need a reasonably competant armouror could easily handle. You could check with our Industry Partners near to you, but I don't have a first hand recomendation close to you.

Gander Mt on RT13. Or order a Wilson Extractor and take 5 min. to put it in.
If you just need an old part to run till a Wilson... I can help Monday after work. I have 20 or so GI extractors.

Good luck! Glad you came over from ARFCOM :)

hairba111 and 303_enfield thanks for the welcome

303_enfield thanks for the suggestion and the offer.

I have an order on the way with grips, grip screws, screw bushings, an extractor and two magazines.

the colt only had one worn out grip and one magazine with feed lips that look like a dog has been chewing on them.

the new grips will help a lot in looks department, the new magazines should solve the slide catch problem and the new extractor should have it functioning right

then I guess I'll take it to the range and see if the colt will run through a few magazines with out any problems

    Welcome

Have you talked with MicountyGunShop in the industry partners? He's just right up the road in Preston.
