Wait, what? One of their pistols blew up in your hand and they didn't replace it under warranty? Seems like a liability issue to me, unless it blew up with something other than factory ammo.

I'll add, the second thing you should have said is " you'll be hearing from my lawyer ". Absolutely should have replaced it free of charge.

Absolutely...even if it wasn't under warranty the company should have been concerned about the chance more of these pistols could suffer from the same manufacturing flaw. They should have wanted it back for testing to determine whether there's a more widespread problem. Good customer relations should dictate more than an offer of a new pistol at cost. Besides the purchaser, how many others might avoid buying the company's products once word gets spread...like here.

I haven't seen it in person yet. Do you guys think it's worth $900?

Personally I really don't like that cut / missing metal at the front, bottom of the frame (aside from all the rounded edges etc)
$900 is too much for it IMHO, more like $500-600-ish.
But I'm biased because I look at it and just feel sad.
If it has an excellent WW1 era barrel with great bore maybe a little more as those are worth something by themselves.
But once you see it in person it may influence you one way or the other.
I'd use the damage at the bottom of frame as a bargaining point at the very least.

He probably means the "undercut" at front lower frame by the mag baseplate.
Hopefully you realize the pistol has been heavily buffed, edges "rounded" & refinished?

Honestly, I would just walk away, too many issues with that one just from what I can see in the pics. I would rather wait for something that is worth the cost, even if the cost is more.

I’d walk away, too. As noted, the bottom of the frame’s front strap is worst part of the pistol. Sets a vibe for what else may have been done.

^^^^. All corners are rounded from polishing, one slide serration is half gone, top of front strap over polished, reblued, slide and frame not same vintage (pony too far forward, IIRC) all parts not true to era of pistol (could be armorer upgraded). No front sight - can’t tell in pic. Depending on tyoe and condition of rear sight - $$$ or nondesirable. Is the grip safety a longer 1911 spur or an A1 that’s shortened via polishing? I’d walk on it unless I found some real good stuff upon detail stripping it. Serial number range?

Hand loads. 357 factory and 357 hand loads. I load in the high range of the regular pressure range, but not to the +P. They said it was cracked in the frame and slide. I cannot find the cracks.

I just picked this up today...a new Colt Defender two-tone...polished blue slide and natural aluminum frame. It came with rosewood stocks but I replaced them with these G10 type...

Here it is with my Colt Night Defender which was a limited edition from TALO some time back...

Besides the roll marks, the basic difference are some contrasting blued parts on the Night Defender's frame, the Night Defender has a beveled front part of the slide. Both have Novak sights but the Night Defender has a Tritium insert in the front sight while the Defender has standard 3-dot sights.

    I'm a happy boy today!

Finally got my slide back from Colt after fixing the blemish on the new firearm. Surprisingly, they did a good job and the finish matches the frame!
