Nice looking equipment, but why post here? Your website makes it look like you are out of business, or never really were in business. Do you actually build firearms as a business or is it just a hobby?

    jr,
I'm posting here to share pics of my work with fellow 1911 enthusiasts!
I can assure you I am 'in business' and I work hard to support my family
    with my gunsmithing.
Smithing the 1911 has been my sole source of income for over 26 years and
    hopefully for 26 more!
Currently I am only accepting smaller jobs, mostly machining, as I'm
    overbooked on bench time.
    Thanks for the compliment!

    :)

Here is mine. The 1 is a 1921 colt 1911. The black 1 is an el cheapo so I can retire the other. Its a firestorm that has not failed me once since i got it and I got over 2000 rounds thru it.

I'll add my latest addition. Kimber Super Carry Pro HD. This gun is very nice - shoots good-fit and finish are on the money also. I am a happy camper. Chris

I bought a Kimber after hearing a few horror stories. Had a few FTFs within the first 200-300 rnds but from around 400 on, the gun is amazing. By far my favorite pistol right now. I did learn though that Kimber isn't joking when they say "don't grease the rails", especially early on. Once I dropped the grease and stuck with just a little break free, the thing is flawless for probably a thousand rounds now.

    Not mine, but porn ..
Below is a 1911 comparative guide a private owner posted. He photographs the subtle differences between his Production 1911 vs. Factory Tuned Production vs. Full Smithed & Custom 1911.

It's a good read even if you're not a 1911 fan as the basic premise translates across all guns, and the photography is a visual treat with excellent macro shots capturing many details that otherwise go unnoticed.

3 different levels of guns Springfield sells.

I used the TGO-1 form the Custom Shop, the Trophy Match and the Loaded for this comparison. They are visually similar guns (target & FO sights, magwells, and flat triggers) but are different levels of guns that Springfield produces. T

The TGO-1 is a Custom Shop gun which less than 200 have been produced. The last one i've seen for sale was made 6/25/2010 and was number 150. It's a really tight gun and is the tightest gun that i own.

The Trophy Match is "high-end" production gun. what's this mean? It receives more attention to fitting, but not as much as a semi-custom.

The Loaded is a production gun. Most people buy guns in this category. The parts are mass produced and has less attention to fitting than the other 2 groups.

The outward appearance of the guns is pretty much the same at first glance.
The main difference is the TGO-1's finish and lack of FCS.

from the shooter's perspective the look similar as well.

the TM's slide is serrated on top

Barrel fit. It should be no surprise that the TGO-1 locks up tight, while the TM & Loaded both have slight side to side movement when locked up.

taking a closer look, you can see the difference in fit. you can see that the Loaded's extractor isn't flush with the back of the slide (and slightly clocked) and the slides to frame fit also vary. I should note that the Loaded was tighter when it was new, but after thousands of rounds it has loosened up a little. The Trophy Match was bought used (don't know the round count) and is slightly loose as well.

    TGO-1

    Trophy Match

    Loaded

The beavertail fitting is nice, and they are similar, but you can see that a little more care was taken with the TGO-1 with the blending at the top. These photo's where taken with the GS depressed. you can also see how the GS (where the web of your hand goes) is blended with the frame.

    TGO-1

    Trophy Match

    Loaded

I added a magwell to the Loaded, but the TGO-1 and Trophy Match had them as standard parts. You can see the difference in the blending and what a drop-in magwell would look like.

I have been waiting for almost a year for this. My nephew is a Marine that is back from Afghanistan. While they were over there, they put together a group buy for a Colt 1911 100th Anniversary Edition that has been custom laser etched for their Company. He got me included in the buy and here are the results.

Now my quandry....I can't see myself owning a firearms I don't use, but then again I can't bring myself to shoot it and ruin it's resale value. Outside of giving it to one of you (I am wise to your tricks) what am I to do?
