Thanks. I probably paid close to top of the market for it which I normally won't do but I really wanted this. The surprise extras help to make it all better and soothe the butt hurt. It's been well looked after these eighty-one years.
My Stevens 418. Got it last year. It was from 1930 (or thereabouts), but it looks like it came off the line yesterday. I've wanted a falling block .22lr for years, and this is everything I hoped it would be.

Just picked this up today from an auction. A 1939 High Standard Model A. It came with some surprising extras.
It came with its box and instruction sheet though the box isn't in the best shape.
It also had its 1948 registration card with the Clark County Sheriff's Office in Las Vegas.
Here's its 1950 ownership transfer.
This is something I've never seen from an auction house...a thank you card and something extra.
Not a dumb question at all. It's not a pain to load, but it does have a quirk or two. The biggest thing is the the extractor/ejector opens far enough when the breech is open that you can pretty easily seat a round fully in the breech ahead of the extractor. That makes it impossible to close the action, and you have to pretty the top of a knife or something under the cartridge rim to get it out. The solution is simply to only insert the round about 2/3 and then close the breech. The block will rise and push the cartridge home with the extractor in the right place. But you have to get use to it a not get distracted. But as far as loading small rounds, it's got plenty of open space otherwise around the breech, so it doesn't feel particularly clumsy.Nice!
Dumb question: Is it a pain to load? My only falling block experience is with .45-70...a nice big Duplo Block of a shell to hold onto and shove in there. Trying to manipulate a .22 like that seems like it could be fumblish.
Like I said, dumb question...just curious

I had been wanting a ruger 10/22 for a very long time just never got 1. All I ever had was a bolt action marlin and a heritage 22 pistol. I was in my local gun store picking up some supplies and I found 1 that had my name all over it. Finally picked 1 up and I couldn't be happier. I am a huge fantasy nerd. Dragons are my thing. I had to have it.

I’m pretty sure nothing good can come of this...
Does that mean it's for sale?
And my ammo burner... .22 SBR with dedicated 4" CMMG barrel, Switchback Suppressor and a Black Dog drum mag for good times.
