What would be your ultimate SHTF rifle if you could only choose 1 and why?

Taking into consideration this will be used for everything, hunting and self defense.

That's a tough one. The AK would work but for hunting I'd prefer something more accurate so I'd have to say the SKS. Mostly because of its accuracy and reliability. One of these days I'm going to make some room for an AR15.:o

    M1A

Take down everything from game, vehicles and crazy people armed with AR15s and AK's.

    Below:
    M1A EBR = zombie slayer

    For back-up, I'm packing a Colt M4 and a Glock 34

    Flamethrower.
    Kill it and cook it.

Of course with this being Maryland and the S does HTF I will more than likely be miles away from my firearms that are sitting at the bottom of the Chesapeake.;)

I guess I will have my CRKT folder.

All you need is enough ammo and skill to kill the first opponent and then take his gun and ammo, then continue with each new opponent.

There isn't going to be a magic ray gun used that causes all guns found on the street to vanish.

Another good option is the FN PS90
Ammo is slightly a problem, but you can easily carry 600 rounds without breaking a sweat. It is lightweight, concealable . Good for keeping a low profile.

It is also perfect for use in confined areas and vehicles. With the 50 round mags and a simple blowback system. One can lay down a high volume of accurate fire, very quickly. And if you have to walk and carry all your stuff with you. Weight is a big factor. The Big 308s are excellent if you are sheltering in place. If you have to be mobile a PS90 or a quality M4 carbine is hard to beat.

Just in case you find yourself surrounded by hostiles.

    SCAR,

Where do you get all these wonderful machines?!

(FWIW, anyone know where I'm paraphrasing from?)
