If all you're doing is punching paper and you're not interested in super tiny groups, ANY AR will work for you. $600 will get you a DPMS or S&W. Spend the rest of the money on mags and ammo. If you want super reliability and tack driving performance, get the higher priced rifles. The extra money is for the reliability.
I'm not looking for sub MOA, but I would like to be able to shoot decent groups. I don't know too much about the platform so I was hoping to get the most bang for my buck w/ the price range I listed (really $1,000-$1,200, prefer to be closer to $1k). There seem to be quite a few rifles in this range so I was looking for advice to narrow the selection down.
