Hey fellas, I am applying to a range this January and cannot decide on North American Rod and Gun or Izaak Walton near Clear Spring. I was a member of Izaak Walton a few years ago and liked the ranges but North American is closer. I have never been to North American and would like opinions on it. Which would you guys choose? I live in northern Hagerstown near PA. I will be shooting target only and the longer ranges the better, I think Izaak Walton has a 50, 100, and maybe 200 yd.

I'm a member at both. I like NA because it's always open and I like IWL because it's less busy. Both are excellent.

At least you're being honest and only stating you'll be shooting at targets - not claiming to hit them.... lol Which ever one you choose make sure they have a decent guest policy!! We still need to zero your 700!

I belong to IWL-Clear Spring. It works very well for me, no range time required, no volunteer time, and the dues are reasonable. Usually not many people there, if any, when I shoot. I give it an A+

Im a member at NARGC I like it alot there. Lots of nice people and the have a good number of events going on all year. They also have skeet, trap, rifle, pistol and archery ranges. Also if you like fishing the antietam creek runs across the property so members get to fish a private section of the creek!

I went up there a few years ago. It was neat hearing that gong at 1000 yards. I had no problems getting in and a member signed me in for the day. As far as the two hundred yard range at IWLA, it's a lot less challenging but it's close. What I usually do is start at the 200 yard stand with my Remmy .308, then move up to the 100 yard and blaze away with my Fostech modified Saiga .308. It tends to chew up the target backboard but they change them often. Finally, if no one else is at the range, I move up close and shoot my hand guns. Usually the 100 yard stand is the most popular, which shuts down the 200 and close range. If some one is there I move down to the 50 yard range near the clubhouse OR go all the way down to the pistol range near the river.

You may want to consider IWLA Mt. Airy chapter. Eight covered shooting positions, with target berms at 25, 50, 100, 200 and 300 yards.

Would love to have you as a member at the IWLA! If you send me your email address I can send you a membership application. We have a fantastic facility, but of course I'm biased being the President. I would be glad to answer any questions you have.

    Yes, Welcome TomF,
Here are the Ranges I found in the surrounding area/States from 1hr to 4hr drives...

And Thanks for the invite "if that was meant for me also" anyway the only problem right now is I am not home for any long periods of time so it hard to do everything that I need and want to do... At least I have my own 120 yd range on my property for now...

200yds Nothing longer? I would like to find a 400-500yd Range so you can really shoot .308s an such...
Peacemaker National Training Center near Inwood, WV (near I-81). Has long ranges out to 1400 yards in addition to 100-300, 600, and 1000 yard ranges.
But you can't just go out there and shoot at say 1000 yards. They have to see you shoot at the shorter ranges successfully before you get a pass to the next longest range.
