This might be the new champ of the $100 hunting/fishing knives:

I can't argue and have a few mora knives, for the cost, they are an incredible value.

Here are a couple of their latest offerings (ShotShow 2015), that are a bit beefier, and I'm guessing a bit more pricy:

But this thread is about the best bang for your $100's for an all around (fixed blade) hunting, fishing, camping, ~survivalish knife. Maybe the Mora stacks up for value, I'm leaning toward yes, but if you had $100 to spend, what's your best option for a 'do it all' outdoors knife?

Folding Gerber Gator with gut hook.

Well under 100 bucks and works like a charm on Bambi.

I think I've had to sharpen the blade three or four times in 8 years and the original grind is on the gut hook. Textured rubbery (Gator) grip that is still grippy when soaked in blood.

Roughly 30 deer have been field dressed with it and three have been fully skinned and processed. Not bad for 35 bucks or so.

Not a fan of the newfangled B.G. orange knives and can't speak to their quality.

How about under $15? The Mora Companion is my go to hunting knife. I just cant seem to find them in orange anymore

    http://www.amazon.com/Morakniv-Companion-Outdoor-Military-4-1-Inch/dp/B004TNWD40

There's a lot of orange ones on ebay right now. I just can't find an orange one with a carbon steel blade.

    They're all stainless.

Mora is also getting into the blade blank business in case you want to roll your own ...

    http://www2.knifecenter.com/kc_new/...363 FT1912423 FT191250062 FT1912603 FT1912722

I did check those out, very nice, but pretty much the same cost as the same blade, but with a handle. I think I'll stick with the full knife + sheath (even though the sheath needs improvement).

I use a havalon and love it. The blades are scary sharp.

There are a few knife like this out there now, this one looks about the best of the bunch and most 'real' knife like. Plus if legendary hunter Shockey is endorsing it, that definitely gives it the edge... (pun intended :-)

ESEE 3 or 4, smaller models are good too. Very sharp, thick and sturdy, and nice sheaths

I've heard a lot about ESEE, and I own a couple myself, and a few models do fall within the $100 and under intent of this thread. There are now a few other makers that have gotten big enough to offer equally excellent value knives as ESEE. This is a very good thing, competition in general is healthy. It's also the American way. You build a better mousetrap, you deserve to be on top (until something better comes along.
