    I rather enjoyed it. :)

Nothing like 2100/4200 rounds per minute, of a 1.2 POUND bullet, at 3600 fps muzzle velocity. :)

All that, and they actually PAID you to do it! Awesome deal.

Yeah, I would come back after a ride to the range, and figure, I just burned 1000 gallons of jet fuel, dropped 6 bombs, shot 3 rockets, 200 rounds in the gun, had about the most fun you can have with your clothes on, and THEY PAID ME FOR IT. :)

And not having to buy the ammo!
    :D

VERY important. When I was flying the A-10, the target practice ammo was around $20 PER ROUND. A typical range ride was 100 or 200 rounds, so $2000 - $4000 in ammo alone.

No. The target backstop would be the water right? Projectiles entering at a slope would have a tendency to skip and continue for miles.

What Mopar said! Ricochet is not only a possibility but a likelyhood and it would be a big no-no as far as safety goes. Shotgun with small shot would be less onerous and only a little different than shooting waterfowl over decoys. However, I don't know if there are any rules regarding this.

I am a Desert Storm Veteran and A10's made short work of a
Republican Guard Armor unit in our AO and heading our way.

    :thumbsup::beer:

I am glad some of my compatriots helped out.

I was out of the jet by the time DS and such came along. A lot of training only.

    Not only the Navy.

I shot a lot of rockets and dropped a lot of bombs on Bloodsworth Island and the Tangier targets.

But for the gun, only on Bloodsworth Island, on the land portion.

So are you the reason one of my favorite fishing spots no longer exists?

So where was your favorite fishing spot?

The places I dropped bombs, shot rockets, and the gun were all restricted areas long before I used them. :)

Bloodworth Island is a naval range. Not sure who "runs" Tangier targets.

Na, that one fell into the bay, there's a website with the history of this place (dont remember the name of the island) but kind of a sad story including the guy who thought he could save it and wound up leaving his old excavator out there too

Against MD law to do this, you will have to go way out into the ocean to do this ;) Not a good idea in general since the bullet will skip and you could kill/injure someone (unlikely but there is a chance)

Yes, that is Holland Island with the land mass behind it being Bloodsworth. Restricted or not I see a lot of folks run from Hooper back behind Bloodsworth to Holland. Good speck fishing in some of the skinny waters.
Funny a retired AF guy turned me on to this area. Besides the water being full of heavy metals, I don't think the Navy cares. Last I heard they were putting a Cruise ship port in on PAX land and that's why they have let some things remain is disrepair on the base (piers, etc.)
