Ok, with the news coming from MSP, I think I'm going to build one up. Now, my two biggest questions are 7.5" or 10.5" barrel? Also, what are some of the recommended muzzle devices (besides a can) for an AR pistol?

You are going 5.56? I went with a 12.5" Daniel Defense CHF barrel after looking up muzzle velocities of various ammo through different length barrels. It is significant even between a couple of inches. Barrel came with a lo pro gas block already pinned and is accurate out to at least 300yds (that is as far as I have tried it).

Somebody needs to start a LBP Porn thread.

So really, anything less than 10" is more or less for cool factor (not that there's anything wrong with that)? And yes, I'm going .556. Any barrel rec's?

Because it looks Cool , and Because I want one are totally good reasons. BUT if you are looking a degree of practicality consider 10.5 a minimum. Stepping up even just to 11.5 will give a 40% increase in dwell time. This is one factor that will give more margin of error and fudge factor for reliable functioning.

If you Want a particular (legal) muzzle device because it looks way super cool , that's okay too. But as our own Clandestine has pointed out genuine Flaming Pigs , and functionally similar devices are a corrective tool to adress gas pressure and functioning issues. Start with a basic , so inexpensive it's essentially free A2 or A1 flash hider. If your gun is 100% out of the box , then you can pick a device that looks cool , and/ or diverts blast/ noise forewards. If gas pressure needs to be increased , then a Flaming Pig ( or similar ) .

IANAGS , but Chad will probably see this thread in a while.

I am running a Doublestar upper and 10.5" barrel. Good stuff so far. Everything I have read says that 10.5 is the minimum reliable length for DI. Any shorter and piston is the way to go for reliability. I am running a heavy barrel and a Troy medieval muzzle brake. The weapon barely moves when I fire it, and is quite comfortable to shoot.

    A couple pointers:
If you are going DI drop the extra coin and get a chromed or Boron coated BCG. Waaaaaayyyyy easier to clean

Do yourself a favor and get a chromed barrel esp if you will be shooting steel core rounds.

A heavy barrel is heavy. It will make the weapon very nose heavy. I am thinking about replacing mine with a lightweight barrel because the balance is so off.

Hold off on the Noveske KX3/5, run the pistol first and see if it's under-gassed before adding something that's going to increase the gas-pressure.

If it's over-gassed to begin with, a KX3/5 is not going to benefit you any.

7.5" 5.56 is a total range blaster and super fun when mated with a fun switch equipped lower. Kaw Valley comp on that. KAK Industry KX3 clone for the 8.5" 300 blackout. For $35 it does the job just fine of sending blast down range. They make 5.56 KX3/KX5 clones too. There isn't added back pressure on these like a Noveske as they are solid cones. The blackout was actually overgassed with a KX3. KAK can fixed that.

What's involved paperwork wise in assembling an AR Pistol from a stripped lower?

Checks or cash are the only paper involved.

Just make sure the lower was transferred either as a Pistol or Other. If it's ever been transferred as a Rifle, you can SBR it but it can never be a Pistol.
