.45 Long Colt for Deer Hunting

I assumed he was asking about rifle since he said "Would these rounds meet the proper muzzle velocity when shot out of a lever action?"

.45 Long Colt for Deer Hunting

The minimum muzzle energy legal for deer hunting in MD is 1,200 ft-lbs. I don't think cowboy loads will get you there. You would need to get a 260 grain bullet moving around 1,450 fps to meet the minimum energy requirements.

Anybody Know if Gilbert Harrell Still Does Taxidermy?

I will probably give Fegan's a call if Gilbert is out of the game. I think Fegan starts at $750 for a shoulder mount these days.

Anybody Know if Gilbert Harrell Still Does Taxidermy?

Hi all. I am in need of a taxidermist. I was hoping to go back to Gilbert Harrell, but either his contact information has changed or he is no longer in the business. I know Charlie Fegan and Hitchcock are near me. Does anybody else have any recommendations for a taxidermist in Central...

      Broadheads

For the last several years I have used G5 Strykers. This year I went to the 125 grain Stryker 2.0. Shot a doe Monday afternoon and was very pleased with the results. You can get the ballistic matching BMP practice tip for them. My DXT could use a bit more tuning and the field points have a...

      350 legend upper?

I am planning to wait a year or two to see what becomes available in terms of the AR and bolt actions for the 350 Legend before making the jump. My brother just bought an 18" Shaw upper. Haven't shot it yet, but it looks pretty sweet.

Savage 220 -- Looking for Recommendation of a Good Smith

I know we have several gunsmith's that are industry partners. I recently picked up a Savage 220 and put it in a Boyd's thumbhole stock. I am looking to have some final inletting/fitting done as the magazine does not lock into place. I understand this is fairly common with the Boyd's stock and...

Bay Pro Shop in Lyons Creek Shopping Center

I've been going to Bay Pro for 20 years. I had a lot of my archery work done by them, but on most things their prices were crazy high. I don't mind paying more to support a local business but not if it means I am being gouged. Last bigger ticket thing I went in there to buy was a Savage 220...

      Braided line to flouro/mono leader

Is this for a shock leader or regular leader? for braid to mono leader I have used the uni-to-uni without issues. For a shock leader I like a spider hitch to a no name knot.

Yellow Perch Fishing/Camping Trip - Looking for Info

Thanks for all of the feedback everyone! Still trying to figure out our plan. We might not be doing the kayaks as my brother, who is going with us, can't paddle now due to a shoulder injury. I have a Jackson Cuda 12 and absolutely love it. The sit-on-tops are heavier than the sit-ins, but...

Yellow Perch Fishing/Camping Trip - Looking for Info

Me and a few guys are looking to catch the early yellow perch run this year. We are hoping to find a spot where we can tent camp nearby and launch our kayaks to get in on the fishing. It looks like camping at Tuckahoe isn't available until March 31st. Does anyone have any suggestions on...

Learned a Couple Valuable Lessons Over the Weekend

No problem. Just goes to show when you get use to a routine things can get missed if you change it up. No excuse for my error other than I wasn't paying as much attention as I should have been.

Learned a Couple Valuable Lessons Over the Weekend

My ramrod is marked for my load as I never use a range rod. This was the first time (and last) that I did not use my rod, which is marked.

Learned a Couple Valuable Lessons Over the Weekend

Learned a Couple Valuable Safety Lessons Over the Weekend I had the opportunity to learn (re-learn?) a couple of lessons over the weekend while shooting my CVA Accura V2. I was at the range on Sunday with my brother and we were doing some range work with our slug guns and our muzzleloaders...

Optics: Correct Ring Set-up & Height

I have the Badger Ordnance 20 MOA base on my Remington SPS Varmint. I am not sure how similar the height dimensions are to the NightForce. I went with Burris Extreme Tactical Rings. My scope is a Bushnell Elite Tactical 6-24x50 and I was able to use the low rings and still have enough...

      Slug Selection (H&R)

In my opinion, Lightfields are the universal go to slug for the H&R. I would be very surprised if they did not shoot well. That said, they are an old design and there are a lot of more modern slugs out there. Inside of 100 yards though, they cause enough damage that I don't feel the need for...

It's not worth it to poach....

SB 748- Deer Hunting Crop Damage Permit Wild Venison

I do have a few cameras on the property. We have one mineral/salt lick and one feeder. Last year we had about 15 deer showing up, with a fairly even split between bucks and does. Before the season even started they mostly went nocturnal. After the opening weekend of bow about half of them...
