MSP advisory on AR pistols with braces

Yes. It will end up getting thrown out in court and the braces will go back on and all will be pistols once again! What you describe is registering……

MSP advisory on AR pistols with braces

Or you can just remove the brace and keep it as a pistol in both state and federal views.

ATF Coming After Firearms with Stabilizing Braces

The way I understand it is, If bought as a pistol, you can NOT SBR it and keep it as a pistol. Just have to remove the Brace and throw it in trash or modify the brace so it can’t be reattached.

ATF Coming After Firearms with Stabilizing Braces

If you bought it as a pistol, I believe you can just remove the brace “ and destroy or Alter the brace so that it can’t be reattached “. Or throw brace in the trash.

ATF Coming After Firearms with Stabilizing Braces

I think this page from ATF says a buffer tube is fine on an AR Pistol…because…. It is necessary for the function of the “PISTOL”

Padded buffer tubes ok? ATF Brace rule questions.

The way I understand it, you can just remove the brace from an AR type pistol, if the buffer tube is a functional part of the pistol. You have to trash or mutilate the brace so that it can not be reattached. Idk… ‍♂️

ATF pistol brace amnesty vs. MD law

Was checking out frequently asked questions on ATF site and they will not even register on form-1 your braced pistol if it doesn’t conform with MD law. So anyone with a Maxim Defense / Springfield Armory PDW (with OAL of 23.5”), your only option will be to trash / destroy the brace...

ATF Coming After Firearms with Stabilizing Braces

There were plenty of pistols bought straight from the manufacturer with a max OAL of 23.5” with shortened modified bolt carriers and buffers which I think would be pointless to try and modify….. not sure what these people can do...

ATF Coming After Firearms with Stabilizing Braces

I was thinking about this too. I’m thinking if you form 1 it with federal it would still be considered a pistol in MD because that is how it is registered on the 77R……

ATF Coming After Firearms with Stabilizing Braces

If you register it, You probably can for longer pistols. Some were designed for shorter barrels (5.5”) and have specially designed buffer springs and bolt carriers and I don’t think replacing the barrel would work with those.

ATF Coming After Firearms with Stabilizing Braces

Wonder if MD state police will have any guidance? If you bought a pistol legally that was on the MD roster (but under 29” OAL). The following is not mine, but I found this comment on a YouTube video. I feel it really hits the nail on the head…. “Strangely, my pistols were manufactured by...

ATF Coming After Firearms with Stabilizing Braces

So we can just remove the Brace and throw it in the trash? No mods to pistol itself??

ATF Coming After Firearms with Stabilizing Braces

I don’t think so. if someone bought the Springfield PDW or Maxim defense. They have special integrated buffer spring. Length 18.75” - 23.5” https://www.springfield-armory.com/saint-series/saint-edge-ar-15-pistols/saint-edge-pdw-556-ar-15-pistol/

ATF Coming After Firearms with Stabilizing Braces

Maybe MD will change their 29” rule since the pistols were purchased legally in MD

ATF Coming After Firearms with Stabilizing Braces

For reference, I’ve been told on this forum that you would not be able to SBR in MD the Springfield PDW and would have to remove the brace to be legal. It has a minimum OAL if 18.75” and maximum of 23.5”...

      Okay Brace SBR question

If it was bought legally as a pistol from a manufacturer and registered as a pistol, in MD, under 29”, how can they then say it has to be an SBR? How can they ask you to change something you bought legally? ‍♂️

      Okay Brace SBR question

I’m wondering also what would happen with a 5.5” barrel pistol? https://www.springfield-armory.com/saint-series/saint-edge-ar-15-pistols/saint-edge-pdw-556-ar-15-pistol
