I've taken a few classes from SME's and have a bunch of force on force time with them, my focus has been on "tactical" applications rather than hunting so YMMV. Thermals are better for defensive / detection...

      You can literally miss everything at 15 yards and still pass as long as you hit everything closer. In fact you can even miss 2 rounds closer AND all 5 at 15 yards and still pass. I'm pretty sure many of us could actually pass it shooting it eyes closed.
