Totally forgot about this thread. As soon as I saw it I started my stop watch, and had a firearm in my hand, ready to go in under 10 seconds. That's an improvement for me.

Had a bit of a scare this week:

Big black SUV pulls up rather fast into my driveway, stops just in time to not crash into my garage door.

(not my image, but it looked about like this:)
    Burgle_standard320.jpg

Just as the SUV comes to a stop, driver wearing a oversized black shirt/jacket with hood pulled down to cover most of his face steps out very quickly; in that same moment the SUV starts rolling backward. My drive is on a slope, driver takes a few steps running with the SUV backward, jumps in, turns the wheel while applying the breaks. Then just drives away.

The suddenness of the unexpected arrival and figure in a hoody (80+ degree weather) caused some alarm inside my home. Very real test of this drill. Happy to say, results exceeded my expectations.

This drill can now be completed within 10 seconds from anywhere on my property at any time, day or night.

When I'm home, there are 2 loaded firearms within 10 to 15 seconds of me.

Just checked from my comfy chair to the revolver was about 12 seconds.

WTF?? Sounds like he was up to no good, but why leave just because he didn't have it park initially? Maybe thought someone saw him, heard a dog bark, etc.

We initially thought, he was so crazy/excited, or in a rush that he put it in neutral instead of park, SUV started rolling back on him; then after he was lucky enough to save it from crashing - had second thoughts and decided to count his blessings and just move along.

After watching the video several times now, it looks less alarming; we're thinking maybe his SUV didn't have reverse, so when he popped out, he might have actually pushed the vehicle backwards and jumping in like that running was his routine way of turning around.

Still no idea why he was driving around in such hot weather with a bulky sweatshirt/coat and the hood pulled over his head/face. Also, no front license plate, and all of the windows were down.

    Any suggestions/ideas?

Seen that a few times, but the hoodie is something else.I'd wager he was up to something, but it might not have been related to you. That's why I like cameras (as long as you're watching the monitor) you can see something and get a head start.

That would be a huge dream there Blaster. Most gun owners practice at a static range firing one shot every 3 seconds and invest nothing in training in a dynamic situation. They feel that just being able to squeeze the trigger is going to get them through a violent encounter.

The second part is that most gun owners including a lot of former military guys, except those in certain specialties, don't know what or how to engage with violence of action.

I say this out of experience in both the classroom teaching and in classes I have taken. I wish the gun owners out there would invest in their training and learn how to truly fight with their guns instead of shooting with them. I certainly understand the guy that isn't really in it for self defense and casually plans to protect the family at home in an absolute emergency, for the guy that carries at home or outside of the home it is a must that they invest in some real training. A large majority of the ones I have seen become soup sandwiches under the slightest amount of stress, they could overcome this but don't keep training.

    This

Shooting and training are two different things, being able to fight/run your weapon is different than just being able to shoot it.

To steal a line from one of our IPs, Train hard, no excuses

At home or out and about less I can have a firearm in my hand and returning fire in less than 3 seconds:cool:

Unfortunately my full time job doesnt realize the hoops I had to jump through to get a CCP in Maryland and feel im not qualified to carry while at work :-/ So at work id be screwed. I carry a kinfe, two flashlights, and some OC spray, but if I need a gun id be better off finding a hiding spot and learning some prayers:sad20:

We haven't done this drill in over a year.

If you've never done this before, I highly recommend you take this seriously and try it now.

If you've done it before, doing it again is a good check on your access and ability to respond.

How quickly can you get a loaded firearm in your hands and ready for use?

    Safety first.
