Yesterday I submitted applications for 2 HK handguns to be added to the "approved" list in Maryland (sorry, the P30SK was not one). The process was easy and the paperwork simple and intuitive. I wanted to meet the mythical Ms. Marlene Jenkins, who is the Handgun Roster Board Administrator. So I drove to the MSP HQ to hand in my documents in person (I could have mailed them). Ms. Jenkins is every bit the lovely person everyone says.
Ms. Jenkins indicated that one of the key board members will not be available in May, so the next board meeting is going to be in late June. She also said this current board is very "pro" and felt that although there have been some recent rejections, by and large the board looks for ways to approve proposals rather than reject them.
Anyway, if anyone has questions on the process please feel free to reach out to me. I know typically our Industry Partners tend to submit new proposals, but there's no reason the average citizen (like me) can't do it as well.

Gratuitous pic of one of the HKs I submitted:

The next office over is the Preacher Roster Review Board, where they meet to look at divinity degrees to see who in Maryland should be able to counsel those who say "the Devil made me do it!".

That office is run by an absolutely lovely lady named Miss Geraldine Jones, who is an atrocious flirt, so watch out.

The kids are protected from poorly made guns, just like they are protected from people who can't buy a gun without an HQL.

    Simple logic.

You know I was thinking about this as I was doing my paperwork. If the criteria of cheap Saturday night specials were really true then there's a much much simpler way to go about keeping those off the streets to protect the children. But, I agree with all of you that this is simply unnecessary bureaucratic red tape that has little value to anyone.

Omega So you did not need a physical pistol for them to examine? What if it were not an HK, relatively unknown manufacturer, like the Israeli pistols erwos is hot to get?

    A classic.

    I believe she came to a bad end . . .

It's actually not about the name. I don't have to have a pistol for the board to examine because they are both variants of existing approved pistols. That said, it was made clear to me that the Board MAY ask to see the handguns prior to approving them in which case I guess I'll have to fetch them from the FFL and present them as a fife presents his lord with an offering. It's not likely, but it's possible.

What are the Israeli pistols you are referring to?

I'm actually surprised they didn't ask for a representative sample for the P8.

Where is the Approval for Voting office, (where the 19A gets shoved aside a lot, and blacks get turned down more often that whites) or the Type of Worship Roster Board office, or the Blogger Licensing dept? How about the Permits to Have 4th Amendment Rights office?

Why won't the Type of Worship Roster Board approve my submission of The Church of the Holy Handgun? My church believes in open and concealed carry outside the home in proper holsters, and that handguns are God.

Me too, though it's clearly a USP variant and perhaps they realized that.

Well, let's see - they might still come back and ask to see it. Fact is, I have no idea why they want to see something first hand. If the point is to make sure it's quality (not a Saturday Night Special), then you can tell that by the product description and several supporting documents from HK I provided. If they want to make sure it's safe, they can read the safety section in the application. What rationale would they have for wanting to see it in person, unless quality was truly in doubt. Even then, it's not like they are a bunch of metallurgists and machinists who could judge the quality of construction of the product in their hand. Seems strange to me.

Absolutely no need for the HRB...
