Bought one on the classifieds here, didn't get quite that good a deal...:envy:

If it has the plastic trigger, you can get a kit from Beretta to replace it and a few other parts with metal. You can soften that double action trigger by swapping it out with a DAO spring. We can shoot them side by side to see if you notice a difference.

Sounds good. :party29: I should have it in two weeks, I also have the others to try out so maybe i can do a pistol day.

Well, I've been waiting a long time for this. I received it tonight - mailman left it sitting on the porch ... I'm really happy with this one. All matching, original stock with intact cartouche and original bluing. The bore is shiny and pretty strong. They don't get much better than this!

    Very nice.
You need to start an Argentine Mauser edu-ma-case-mal thread for us heathens :)
for example: is this one of the "engineer carbines"?
I know squat about these but from watching your posts there's some interesting stuff.

No, this is a Cavalry Carbine. The top one in my last picture is an Engineers Carbine. There were 33,500 carbines. 15,000 were made by Lowe and 18,500 were made by DWM. Of those, about 10,000, seem to be mostly DWMs, were converted to Engineers Carbines by adding two bayonet lugs/bands and moving the rear sling ring to the left side of the butt, as shown here:

Ok, forgive me for posting a sporter, but I could not resist this one.

First, I do have an all-original 1889 in nice shape.

Second, I saw this on GB and got it for 175 bucks shipped. The bore is great, and whoever did the bubba job, did pretty good work. The only real part they kind of butchered was the rear sight.

But, I figured just the bolt and magazine are worth what I paid (basically..)

In the last three days of this past week I received:

    One crate of silver-tip 7.62x54R
Two crates of Swedish training ammo (to be re-purposed).
    1,500 Hornady bullets - .264 140 grain (two suppliers).
A 91/30 ex-sniper with an amazingly sweet trigger.
A 91/30 ex-sniper with a very smooth trigger ... but not like the above.
Two other 91/30s ... just because.
A .50 cal Hawken replica muzzle loader (price I couldn't refuse)
A cool pipe with a carved elk (hi Bart!).

I'm sure glad that I wasn't going to be doing much buying in May! [Edit ... I forgot about the 1903A3]

Enjoy my 5th M39. A "no date/no maker" built on an 1897-dated Tula receiver, with a matching bolt, mint bore and gorgeous as-new post-war stock. The bluing is a really interesting fatigue green color. It's actually pretty cool, and gives the rifle a little bit more of a "pop" than I'm used to. This is up there on my list of favorites.

I'm feeling pretty good about my $425 antique!
