I am taking my class in 2 weeks, after that I am going to proceed with the paperwork. I am a licensed contractor/business owner in the state and have been for about 3 years. I have had a business account with my bank for the last 2 years. I have monthly deposits ranging from $5000 to $25000. I asked the bank today if they could provide me a letter and they said it would be easier if I wrote the letter and they would notarize it. That didn't make much sense to me.

Two questions, what type of letter should I be getting from the bank? and what are my overall chances of approval?

Your chances are beyond excellent assuming a clean background. A bank letter is much simpler than deposit slips. Mine simply verified the existence of the account and showed an average daily balance. Nothing more, nothing less. Send your Contractors license, trade name registration, and corporation paperwork from SDAT. Best of luck to you.

One would never truly know how often the restrictions are enforced. If a law enforcement officer encounters a person with a handgun in a non criminal contact and they reveal they are carrying, the officer would need to first understand the complex law sufficiently enough to even understand permits have restrictions. If an officer decided to overlook a technical infraction, people in my (former) position would be the last to know. It is rare to be arrested for a permit violation. But it does indeed occur.

Your last two sentences just made me feel ill, again. It does indeed happen, even to the best of us. Good to hear from you again Jack.

I have a clean record, I was going to use 2 police officer references and another business owner reference. I work day/night , week days, weekends, all hours so I hope that IF I was to get approved, it doesn't have restrictions

It will definitely have restrictions. Those restrictions may be virtually meaningless if you are truly working around the clock but it will indeed have restrictions. No way around that unless it is for personal protection and good luck with that. Or maybe Hogan's new MSP Superintendent will change things. We shall see. I am not holding my breath.

The letter, on bank letterhead and signed by the branch manager should simply state the following:

"Your_Name maintains one or more active accounts with a monetary cash flow."

    That's it.

Balance info or notary signature is irrelevant, and frankly, wasted effort.

I have assisted applicants whose references were the County Sheriff, The County Executive and a sitting MD Circuit Court Chief Judge. Made no noticeable difference.

Still had to drive an hour away, past two barracks to interview, and still took 5+ months for approval.

If anything, that's probably a good thing.

IMHO, the only thing references can do is hurt you. For example, if they contradict information you supplied on your app, or imply that they would not be comfortable with you carrying a firearm in public.

Also, based on current trends, if you don't have so called G&S, as interpreted under the current scheme, I suggest you plan to wait at least until after sine die to submit an application.

Just an FYI, I replied to the email from the SGT that requested a letter from my broker and also left a voicemail. It's been 48 hrs and no response.

My bank (Capital One) had a template letter from the corporate office they were required to use. This Letter stated the account name and type of account (business), length of time the account was open, and the average daily balance. I did not like the average daily balance part being included but it was the letter they were required to use by the corporate office. In any event it worked just fine.

I went through that with BoA. The local branch mangler would readily agree that the individual had an account, and that they had a cash flow... But the minion was completely unable to put it in writing.

I eventually had a student who was a BoA VP. Now I just call her with the account number and she emails me a signed letter a few minutes later.

My preference would be to walk them in as each of them cancels their account, but many cant do it for whatever excuse.

My bank is BOA as well, seems I have to get the letter confirming the account with average daily balances.

If you want to skip the letter from the bank just take half a dozen or so random deposit slips from the past year, stick them all on the copier and you're done with that part. You're going to be making copies of receipts, articles of incorporation, etc. anyway.

IME the investigating trooper has not been quick to respond to emails or return calls unless he needs something from me.

Literally just got a response and he said because I am "affiliated" with the broker they need to write a letter saying they "want" me armed while I am working. This sounds like a load of crap.

Exactly what they did to me. They're playing a game where they want to make someone fear they are legally responsible for you now if they get involved.

    Hey guys! First post :)

I have an appointment this coming week for my carry permit.

Here's the catch: I went to the bank, got an official paper saying i have a business account with consistent monetary flow, yada yada yada, exactly what the app says to do.

He called me today and told me he needed more information, he said he doesn't need exactly bank statement but he needs to know substantial amounts that were deposited. I DO have this information, and the deposits are fairly substantial, BUT i don't feel it is his right to have said information.

I don't want to show up to the interview and be like yea, its none-ya business how much my company makes, but i want to deny him access to the information without being rejected for my permit.

    Thanks for any responses,
    Justin

PS. I made the app focus on protection of assets (with particular attention away from cash) and/or protection of company information, i.e. sensitive client info on business phone.

They don't care about assets or sensitive information. I know people who have been turned down for using that as their G&S.

My investigating trooper asked me during the interview what the average deposit totals were and what percentage of that was cash. I also included several deposit slips with my app. Doesn't seem what he's asking you is out of the ordinary.

Then why have on the application that you can have a bank letter saying you have cash flow when they are just going to ask you for bank statements/receipts...
