What exemption? The law says you can mail any weapon you legally own, just like you can mail any magazine to yourself that you legally own. There is no exemption.

Obviously you are breaking the law if you mail yourself a gun that is illegal to posses in MD. Possessing 30 round magazines isn't illegal.

I could have bought a 30 round magazine 2 years ago in Georgia and left it with you. I cannot now mail it to myselfd in MD. I can ship a rifle I bought before Oct 1, 2013. That's the difference.

TSA prohibits firearms or FIREARM PARTS in carry on bags. The exception is optics.

To get technical for a second, if you have to put the magazines in checked luggage, wouldn't you be receiving them from the airline/baggage handlers at baggage pickup in the MD airport? How is that different from a mailman?

Lets say I put the mags in my luggage then I mail the luggage to myself. Do you really think the law treats the airline handing you your luggage and the USPS handing you your luggage differently?

Why is receiving your magazines back from the airlines different than receiving them from the mailman?

In both cases a third party transported your magazines across state lines and then handed them back to you.

I travel a lot to other States. While browsing a gun store in Georgia I saw some good deals on 30 round AR mags. I wanted to buy some but... How would I get them home?

Is it okay to put an empty mag in carry-on luggage?

If I mail them to myself, am I violating the "receive" wording in the new law?

Is carrying a mag across the boarder the only legal way to get one?

Don't ever bring firearm equipment in carry on luggage, that is a huge NO-NO. the only exception the TSA allows is rifle scopes, and a scope is really just a monocular.

Sure would be nice to have that definition, wouldn't it? A few of us have been asking for a while.... As a matter of fact, I wrote to the entire GA last summer to inquire and got absolutely 0 responses.

A member of the GA must request the AG for an opinion. Maybe that would work. They don't respond to citizens.
