I may be new to this sight, but I am not new to my rights. So I have to say that was the most absurd thing I've read in a while.

I can see I'm going to have about as much in common with the Con. carry folks as I do the hard core open carry folks.

Thanks for your work over the years to bring attention to this issue and to make a difference. Wait you arent Mr. Woolard or Judge Legg are you? I recend my comment.

Not sure if it matters but I also got mail from the Dept. of Public Safety and Correctional Services.

Stating no criminal history and fingerprint check initiated.

If your boss doesn't like you, well I guess it doesn't matter. I just talked to my boss and gave him a heads up and he was cool about it, but then again, he is not a liberal anti everything freak.

If they do call your boss, document (write/log it down date and time and what was said if the boss will tell you), and if your boss makes ANY negative comments to you or them, document that. It is not against the law for you to apply for a permit the state offers and if someone has an idealogical difference of opinion about the subject and uses that against you, that is a law suit waiting to happen. Okay, it still may cause issues, but my point is you have recourse. Documentation with date, time and whom said what is your best start, from my experience if you get treated negatively over these kind of situations.

Good advice. When a potential employer calls your old company, I was told, that legally they cannot give any more info than dates worked and your position to avoid potential lawsuits. I would like to hear if this is true from attorneys or HR people who are on this forum.

I've heard that they are not allowed to give "negative" reviews.

So we will be asked how many guns we own and what they are. That will end up being quite a long interview for some of the people on this forum :lol2:

That was BEFORE the boating accident.

When I had my interview, the Trooper asked what gun I would carry should I get the permit. He then proceeded to give me some suggestions on other guns to consider, and how to train. A positive experience all in all.

they want to make sure you are not a dangerous lunatic, but "Have you ever seen a psychiatrist" is vague in its purpose... Answering "yes" could mean you saw one because you were hearing voices telling you to kill people .

Good, I should be ok, I hear voices that say "fart in peoples faces and bark at the moon" I would never get caught barking at the moon - people would think I am nuts.

this reinforces the saying "you don't know what you don't know."

A lot of legislation is moved forward in closed rooms. Ever hear of Obama care?

Sorry didn't have time to provide details. The questions were:

    1. Why do you want a permit? Answer was for self protection.
    2. Have you been threatened? Answer no.
    3. Do you have a permit from another state? Answer yes Utah. He asked for the permit number. Then asked how many States it was valid in. Told him around 30 but not MD unfortunately.
    4. Have you ever seen a shrink? Okay he said psychiatrist. Answer no.
    5. Have you or do you use drugs? Answer no.
    6. Do you drink rarely, socially or heavily? Answer rarely to social.
    7. Have you been arrested? Answer no.
    8. Have you ever been charged with domestic violence? Answer no.
    9. Do you have firearms in your house? Answer yes 2 9mms and a shotgun
    10. What kind of guns. Answer Springfield XDms and a Mossberg 500.
    11. Are you married, single or divorced? Answer married.
    12. Can I speak with your wife? Answer yes she is right here.

He asked her to go to a different room and asked her if she was a victim of domestic violence. And did she have any reasons why I should not get a permit? She said no and I really hope he gets one. Good girl!

That was pretty much it. I know he also called at least one of my references. All in all very straight forward.

Gee, they even want the number on your other permit(s). I feel totally stripped!

If they ask about my guns, I'll probably say something like, "I have several Regulated Firearms. Those are in your database." I think I'd be well within my rights to politely and diplomatically deflect any further questions as not being relevant. I'll be watching this thread, and giving it some thought.

I suspect the interviewer might want to stress you a bit, maybe see how you react to a mild provocation. Anyone who reacts like victorshiflett would probably get disapproved.

My answers, at this point, are very easy - no guns, no doctors, no drugs, very little alcohol. If they are in fact asking the employers deeper questions, that is more troubling. Not that I have anything in my work life that should cause an issue with an interview, but it would raise some questions from my boss that I should not have to address.

It seems to that the primary reason to have an interview is to determine if a good and substantial reason exists.

That's the huge thing here in my mind. This is not something that everyone should be privy to, especially in a professional environment. I can't help but wonder what would happen if someone were to sue the MSP or the state for damages.

I agree, and the line of questions asked seem to be borderline questions to determine G&S reason for a permit

Some of them look like application verification questions - trying to see if you will trip up and say something other than what you selected on the form. Asking about the firearms possessed, going beyond basic employment verification with your employer, or the reason for the application point down the G&S route, IMO.
