Not really. That thread hasn't been updated since July. I have been in contact with MSP and Springfield Armoury a number of times since August. Here are the two possibilities:

    1) Those 5.25s were registered as an XDm and not an XDm 5.25. If they were and MSP or ATF ever figure out that they were registered wrong, the store stands to lose their FFL.

    2) There was an initial period where there was a lot of confusion about whether or not an XDm and an XDm 5.25 were the same or different. It's possible that MSP allowed the registration for an XDm 5.25 to go through initially, but then closed the loophole waiting for the results of the board.

I am just telling you what I have experienced and what I have been told. It is possible that MSP will allow the registration of an XDm 5.25 before November 21st. I believe the worst they can do is say no. If they do, you will lose the money you paid to the FFL and to the state for the transfer. You may also find your self in a pickle with the FFL holder since they will have your gun and will be unable to transfer it to you until the gun is added to the roster. I believe you would be able to re-apply on November 21st or so when the gun is officially added to the roster.

No, there weren't two ranges. Gunpowder closed down and was out of buisness for a few years I think before H&M bought and refurbished the place.

There were two separate shooting areas at Gunpowder. A short time before Gunpowder closed, the "back" range was not used because the roof caved due to water damage.

    LOL I heard.

I was vague, I was asking are there two separate ranges in that building? Unless that's what you are talking about, it's late at night and Friday. :D

Back in 2008 someone told me they were shown the "second range" but I thought it was a joke, then recently in this thread or another, someone mentioned a much smaller 4-5 lane range in the back of the building somewhere. I always forgot, and never thought to ask whenever I was ever there. I'm not trying to open an investigation, just wondering what they use it for if no one shoots on it.

    Sgt Preston here...

I have been a member at Horst & Mc Cann since they opened & visited the old Gunpowder Range before they closed up..

The old Gunpowder Range had 2 different ranges...

The 25 yard range that H&M now uses on the right side of the building & a shorter 15 (?) yard range on the left side that H&M use for storage, brass processing, reloading etc...

Horst & Mc Cann is still using the very old target carriers that belonged to the Gunpowder Range & YES those target carriers DO currently need maintenance & attention..!

    Hope this is helpful...

I've shot at H&M before. Even bought my XDm from them. Great people to deal with. Prices were a little on the higher side, but they answered every question I had. Ammo prices were high (I brought my own when waiting for the paper work to come back), but overall it's a good place. Equipment is a little dated, but works well.

Last Tuesday I stopped at Freestate looking at a compact 1911. Great people, great range, super nice equipment.

H&M is closer to me than Freestate, but I'll probably visit both again.

I've been there once. The people were very friendly and seemed knowledgeable. It's the prices and ammo policies (some of which may have changed, it's been a while) that keeps me from returning.

I think personally the prices of H&M range fee's are about the same as say Continental and Freestate. The other two may do 60 minute range time. For me it made no difference in the time frame a non member would pay, I would never be in there for more than 30 minutes.

Rental fees are about the same, and their in stock ammo prices are about the same of all the three. We all know the quality of the reloaded ammo, so we wont bother comparing that.

Membership prices are probably even the same.

their membership price is too high compared to places like freestate that are much nicer. i use h&M more than any other place because they are convenient but they are not in line with other places pricing

Tried to go there today...tried. Arrived 10 minutes after open...people standing around outside. We ask "what's going on?".

Apparently they had a class of some sort. No indication of a class except for the closed sign on the front door. A customer asked if he could wait inside until the class was done. He was told "No...it will be about a half hour" and the door was closed and locked in his face.

    You stay classy Horst!

I want to try your range out. H&M is simply off my list at this point.

I arrived at around 11:30 saturday to the place being wall to wall with people. I asked if it was always this busy. and they replied that they had a class and are usually this busy on weekends.

I dont understand what the issue is if there was a class taking up the space.

i could hardly stand in there after the class had left.

the employees got me on the wait list right away. and they were accommodating given the circumstances. and answered any questions i had. i wasnt treated any less than anyone else there. they even let one of my kids hold the tommy gun while i waited which i thought was pretty cool. even though i didnt quite have the money to shoot it lol

hopefully the next time i come it will be less crowded.

given my experience if u were treated rudely. im sure ithey didnt mean to come across that way

Opening a little late isn't an issue
Having a class isn't an issue.

Expecting people to know you're holding a class (when it's not indicated), running late, and treating people with disrespect who ask when you'll be open, IMO is an issue.

i still dont understand why you r still making an issue of the fact of late opening. u cannot expect when these things r done lol. though icannot vouche on the disrespect part since iwasnt there. but from my experience i was treated with a reasonable amount of respect. if they r late, they r late. nothing u can do but wait

You can do a search, its been covered multiple times.

Run down, place opens from old gunpowder range with tmj or hollow point ammo only for hamdguns, expensive but its a health reasoning. Freestate opens now you can shoot fmj with exposed lead well before the competition opened up exposed lead on a bullet was no good and bad for your health.
