I picked up my first Mauser a few weeks ago, a Yugo-refurbed, K98, chambered in 8mm. I have wanted one for a long time and this came up, along with surplus ammo!

Hopefully i can get to the range tomorrow and see how she shoots!

Don't know how I missed this!

    Thanks

Yugo Mausers, so many choices :)

Same here. I think they were out of stock on those for awhile, when last I checked a few months ago. Didn't think to look for awhile, but now that they are available I got one.

As to why, 1) they are cheap 2) interesting historically, although these are likely cobbled together from parts in Bulgaria 3) early and interesting bolt operation--straight pull combined with en bloc clip. Not sure there is another rifle with quite that system. Swiss are straight with box mag, Carcanos and Berthiers are en bloc with turnbolt. System may not be great, but early attempt at bolt and loading system.
