Well said.
I think this is a good point. Symbols should be unambiguous in what they communicate and easy to understand, and their meanings should be impossible to be adulterated or otherwise changed. It took humanity millennia to get to the now commonly understood stop sign, but it's a great symbol. It's unambiguous in what it communicates and its meaning is difficult to adulterate.I don't see this as us equating our plight with the Jews during the holocaust, as that would be ignorant and insulting. It does, however, point out that the Democrats share some of the same dangerous ideas as totalitarian regimes in recent history. I don't think this should be a "look at me", it should be a "look at what you are doing" kind of symbol.
I would run away from any group who denied, condoned or made light of the Holocaust. I also abhor people like Waldstreicher who think the same thing can’t happen again. Not only can it happen, but at some point it WILL."Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." Or so said the poster in my elementary school library.
Anyone who thinks that the gun star is anti-Semitic is an ignorant buffoon. What's anti-Semitic is making Jewish people defenseless where they congregate and worship, which is exactly what SB1 will do. Of course it makes non-Jews defenseless where they congregate and worship too.
I do not understand why anyone would target Jews, but I do understand that it happens. And I understand that there is no chance of ridding the world of evil. Thus, I am beyond incredulous that Sen. Waldstreicher, who is Jewish, would lead the charge in making Jews (and others) defenseless. The Holocaust was made possible, in part, because German Jews were unarmed. The gun star succinctly ties together three things: what can happen to an unarmed populace, SB1's sponsor, and gun control. It certainly does not in any way, shape, or form condone the Holocaust.
My sister went to college with a "Jewban" (a Jew from Cuba...).Pedro Goldberg.
There's a lot of discussin in this thread, and I remain on the fence. For full disclosure about my lens on the issue, mom spent her life from ages three through nine growing up under Nazi occupation in her native Poland. Her mom was put to work cooking for 77 Gestapo and SS officers. If she refused or offended, she could have been shot. Did she deserve reparations?I think this is a good point. It's a challenge to create commonly understood symbols or icons that convey that the end result of civilian disarmament is genocide and violent anarchy.
Pictures are easy to create and understand, but symbols are difficult. I think the message the yellow star w/ a gun is trying to communicate is what the below picture says. But too many people honestly or dishonestly misinterpret it.

Yeah, that's the tricky part. People will draw their own conclusions about what the star may mean. There's a lot of discussin in this thread, and I remain on the fence. The Soviet "liberators" were animals. Babcia (grandma) said at least the Nazis had a rule book, a diabolical rulebook, which they followed, whereas the Soviets were just nuts, raping, pillaging and stealing everything in sight. Think of pogroms.
We may intend a message the gun star attempts to communicate, but people who see it will draw their own conclusion as to what it means. Think of the expression, "don't explain, friends won't need it and enemies won't believe you." This is a tough one.
In a vacuum I would agree with you, seeing some rando walking down the street wearing one might be construed as a little odd. Being worn by a group of 2A advocates KNOWN TO YOU while demonstrating in the same place they have every Monday night for years would not take more than a half dozen brain cells to connect the dots. There's a lot of discussin in this thread, and I remain on the fence. The next level of analysis is Ferguson and Smith will be contacted by voters who don't understand the gun star and rail against it.In a vacuum I would agree with you, seeing some rando walking down the street wearing one might be construed as a little odd. Apparently Sens Ferguson and Smith don't have that many to spare.
I concur. But without the M1911 silhouetted in it.I am a heterosexual, Christian, white male. I will not wear the "Star of David 1911" as I don't feel it is correct for me to do so. I FULLY support our Jewish members doing so but am opposed to my fellow gentiles wearing it.

Well, The problem with only Jews wearing the Star would be the same as the Nazis forcing them to wear star as they did to Identify them as Jews. This Star and gun represents YES, JUDE and Yes I have a GUN and I will fight back. My father and uncles fought WWII. When I was a kid I remember seeing men missing a leg or arm. I am standing with anyone that needs help standing. The pos that sponsored the bill is a jew. No less and no greater than any one else. He is only doing this for his personal success.I concur. First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Jews have settled in Maryland since the 17th century. As of 2022, Maryland's population was 3.9% Jewish at 240,100 people. The largest Jewish populations in Maryland are in Montgomery County and the Baltimore metropolitan area, particularly Pikesville and northwest Baltimore. https://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/maryland-israel-cooperation#stats
The claim by the sponsor of SB1 is that "4% of Montgomery County is Jewish but they are recipients of 85% of HATE CRIMES." I don't doubt the claim, but to reason more gun control to a group of people that, based on his own statistic, should probably have access to guns more than anyone else.
I am not a Jew I will stand with Jews, as I have in Annapolis, as long as they are willing to have me stand with them. I will stand with many groups that to which I am not a member to help them protect their inherent rights. I stand for those that can't, those who won't and those that should.
I agree. I will not wear one. I DO believe it sends a powerful message. It doesn’t compare our plight to that of the Jewish people, but DOES compare their behavior to that of totalitarians everywhere…including Nazis. Don’t want to be called a Nazi? Done fvcking act like one…I live in Pikesville (midway between The IDF and Fiddler on the Roof). I work PT for an Israeli self-defense company and FFL.
I am of German Lutheran heritage and stand by my statement. It is wrong for someone with my lineage to wear a yellow Star of David patch.
^^^^^THIS!Don’t want to be called a Nazi? Done fvcking act like one…
The text of this should be sent to senator Smith and the MGA.“We chose to demonstrate in Annapolis wearing the yellow gun star for appropriate historical reasons.
Our use of the yellow star symbol is neither disrespectful or anti-Semitic.
It is instead the symbol of the irony of a lawmakers emulating actions that helped make the Holocaust possible. The egregious assault on the rights of all law-abiding citizens is being championed by lawmakers who refuse to acknowledge that the Holocaust was made possible in part because German Jews, having been disarmed by their government, were unable to oppose a tyrannical dictator.
We don’t want citizens of any faith to be disarmed, and thus made vulnerable. That is why we choose to remind people of what can happen to an unarmed citizenry, by using a version of an icon of that terrible tragedy.
The yellow gun star is worn now at the MGA, both indoors and out, by Jews as well as those of other faiths, or of no faith tradition at all.
Jewish or not, we wear this yellow star symbol with reverent respect for the millions of innocents who have died at the direction of their own government. We wear it to stand for those who lost their lives, and we wear it to stand up to those who would, through disarmament, make citizens, including Jews, vulnerable where they congregate.
We recognized early on that this symbolized the present threat to us in our own day: the government intentionally disarming its own citizens, again, by law.
Maryland legislators, as is THEIR history, seek to punish that part of the population they despise, as the loyal German Jews were once despised and persecuted.
Today these legislators use the same propaganda techniques and baseless fact-free speculation to limit first what we say and eventually even how we can live, and where we choose to travel if we wish to defend ourselves and our families.
They are now openly celebrating the prospect of intentionally leaving us defenseless by law, so that, inevitably, we will be lethally harmed by the criminals they annually refuse to punish.
Maryland criminals carry and recklessly use stolen firearms to commit additional crimes and to murder the defenseless, as the legislators well know. The lawmakers know that law-abiding people are not the problem, yet that is who they target.
These legislators are too intoxicated with their own hubris to be ashamed of their unsurpassed ignorance of both history and human nature. They instead live in “The World of Make-Believe” and celebrate their astonishing delusions by making laws that reflect those delusions.
Thus we regard this historical parallel of our potential defenselessness with the almost unspeakable tragedy of the Jews of Germany and Eastern Europe before, and during, WWII as being more than an obvious one.
Despite the universal plea and the admonition since the Holocaust to “Never Forget” there are MD legislators who have clearly forgotten, or worse, shamelessly ignore 20th Century human history in their hysterical zeal to punish us in the 21st.
With them, history begins only the day they were born.
This is also why they openly and proudly seek to nullify the U.S. Constitution in Maryland for the political gain of The Party, as a collateral benefit of seeing us murdered in a State where, of all States, we should be free, because our State motto, bequeathed to us by Maryland’s fallen heroes, was meant to endure forever. With them, it’s a dead letter.
Now they auction off our fundamental Rights to their highest bidders, and illegitimate bills such as SB-1 are their payoff to their child-like supporters. The Constitutional illegitimacy of these bills is a feature, not a bug.
We thank our dear Patriot brother eruby for his courage and judgement in handling this latest abomination, given his own Jewish faith, and the wisdom and sincerity of his politics.
His tremendous courage, patience and humor shines through in this despicable yet revealing episode of being ordered to leave a public hearing because he wore the yellow gun star symbol as a testimony witness.
It is too great a violation of eruby’s rights and reputation to label this confrontation and illegal ejection from the hearing yesterday as just another “infringement.”
So, as with the yellow gun star symbol, we will never forget.”
The Patriot Picket.
