I know DC will give you one free registration with your CCW app. Nothing is mentioned about bringing more than one firearm as a non resident. I know they allow more than one previously owned firearm to be brought in when you apply, but that seems to apply to new residents. guess a phone call is a good idea if you want to register more than one.

There is a requirement to give them verbal notice you are coming. Then you have 48 hours to register.
I am torn, do I use my one registration on my G26 or my G30s?

What I don't get, hasn't DC heard of a digital camera? Even that , why necessary if I can tell them the manufacturer, make and serial number? If I get stopped with a gun that isn't the same serial number, isn't that all they need?

making it easy is not the goal. Making it hard is the goal. Look at MD.

most states allow CCW app by mail. Not DC. That is making it too easy.

Guns do not need serial numbers.

Anything pre-68 is grandfathered. Anything you make is not required to have a serial number, the BATFE politely asks you to create a serial number for it.

Thanks. Do you know the composition of that court? Is it a panel or a single judge per case?

It's a 3 judge panel, heavily composed of liberal judges, some appointed by Obama and Clinton

Technically, there is a slight 'R' edge at DC Circuit. 9-R, 8-D appointed. However, we know of Henderson's slant on 2A issues, so that balance shifts...

    ^^^This.
To understand DC registration, listen to

    Dick Heller v. DC
    Judges: Henderson, Millett, Ginsburg
Arguing: Stephen P. Halbrook, Loren L. AliKhan (OAG)

A great way to do this is on your iPhone or Android commuting to/from work.

That may all be true, but do you really believe the predominance of carry pistols people would register don't have serial numbers? If you can't give them a make model and number, then bring it?

80 percent frames are commonly available for ARs, as well as 1911s...

Patrick, I don't want to argue, but the instructions from MPDC instruct you to bring the firearm when yoiu apply for your CCW. It's free.. Perhaps a compromise would be leaving it in your vehicle until you find out. It would seem a huge waste of time to have to drive home without registering the firearm or having to make 2 separate trips down to DC.
Step 2: Submit the completed PD-219 to FRS.
Bring the completed PD-219 to the FRS, along with:

    • The firearm, if appropriate.
      • If you already own the firearm, bring the UNLOADED gun with you. If registering a semi-automatic firearm, do bring the empty accompanying magazine. Please note that it is illegal to possess a magazine that holds more than ten rounds of ammunition in the District of Columbia.
    http://mpdc.dc.gov/node/178402

You get a free registration you register the firearm when you apply for the CCW. If not, it's 13 dollars why wouldn't you do it?

    From the instructions:
2.In the -Statement of Eligibility section of the application:
    o
If you checked “Yes” to Question 16, then you must
also submitfirearm registration Form PD 219
    and accompanying documents
    .
This is available at on our website or you may
call the Firearms Registration Section for assistance.
You may apply to register one handgun at the same time that you submit your
Concealed Carry Pistol License application and you will not be charged the $13.00 firearm registration

I do not think you want to bring a firearm with you when you apply for the carry permit. For now, just show up with the paperwork.

As a DC resident who has had to "schlep" everything from a 1911 to a shotgun and a Garand down to MPD HQ, I'll say that it's pretty "easy" (OK, not easy, but not as hard as it seems). I'll also admit that I was scared schi+less the first time I did it. I've never called ahead, but I always make sure I have the complete (dated & signed) registration form with me to prove that I'm headed to registration. The contract guards at the front entrance deal with guns headed for registration everyday. They will take the gun, and escort you up to the office.

Everyone in the registration office is helpful, in particular, Officer Mills is great!!! When I registered my Garand, he was so interested in it,we got talking and he forgot to charge me for the registration. He paid out of pocket ($13) and I sent him the money. Can't complain about that kind of customer service.

My recommendation to anyone would be to get a gun registered when you apply, if for no other reason than to be protected from the inadvertent spent casing. I'll also add that it would be a good idea to check DC's "roster" before you go just to make sure you're safe. That said, I think DC is OK with anything on the CA, MD, or MA approved lists.
