Went there about 3 years back. It is a fantastic experience; a great chance to see/feel the real equipment and planes, and talk to members of the greatest generation before they exist no more.....

I headed there tomorrow morning with a buddy who happens to be taking flying lessons. I'm hugely psyched to see the warbirds and the re-enactments. I may even spring for a ride in B-17. That's been on my bucket list for decades!

I'm going to take my dad and nephew tomorrow. I've taken my dad a few times in the years past and he has really enjoyed it. The first year we went he found a display for Destoryer Escort Slater in Albany New York and he loved it. He served on the USS Parle which was DE 708 in the late 50's and it brought back a lot of memory's for him. We got info there about the USS New Jersey Battleship on display and ended up going to it that same year for a great day. Still haven't made it up to see the USS Slater but that is on our list to do. I love the old prop planes and still miss the show that used to go on in Frederick. If anybody else is going Sunday, I'll be wear my MDS shirt and if you see me feel free to say hello.

I know of the Widow, but never heard anthing about US night fighter action. It was a surprise to me when I heard of the Black Cat operations. Most references are about ME111 night fighters.

I don't think I've ever seen Reading Airshows. The sound of a Merlin should not be missed. AD-1's on a simulated napalm run is also very exciting.

They had the P61 out on display and a big tent set up selling shirts and stuff with the proceeds going toward the restoration. We got there around noon and was treated to a German invasion into a French town which was occupied by Amercian troops right as we walked through the front gates. Nice to see all the weapons each side was using from Garand's to MG42's as it seemed they had examples of everything, even a Bazooka. Blanks are louder than I thought they would be! All kind of ground troops everywhere. My nephew and I got a demonstration on how the Norden bombsight worked at the 8th Air Force display which was very interesting and he hit the target! Planes were taking off and landing all day as they were selling rides in a lot of the old warbirds. The air show was good to watch. I didn't take a lot of photos but here are some of them.

If you have never been to this show I highly recommend it! So much history and always something going on around you. It's not just an airshow with so much living history of all the different gound troop reanactors and civilian reanactors. Also have some real veterans from WWII that will tell there stories to anyone who ask. I've had the pleasure of meeting so many the past couple years and with so many leaving us year to year it makes it that much more special. I got to meet the co-pilot for Jimmy Doolittle in the raid on Japan this year and had meet people like Bill Guarnere(Band of Brothers) last year and now he has passed on, more and more of "The Greatest Generation" leave us every day. There is also a flea market area that will sell anything from VHS/DVD's to military uniforms and guns! I suppose they were set up for blanks/reanactors but I didn't ask.
