    State of absolute disgust
My cucumbers did absolutely nothing this year. Not even enough to make one batch of pickles. Last year, however, I made just over 12 gallons of bread and butter pickles. Now that's a lot of jars!

Ours was lite this year too... same with tomatoes

My wife adds a little surprise to some of hers and drops a habanero or 2 in the jars... Dill, garlic dill, b-n-b... All with habanero.. Good stuff :D of course regular too... :D

This thread just reminded me that we have pickles in the fridge. Not home made, but the good old Vlassic ones.

Thought about jarring peppers this year and then said "screw it" and ate them all. Maybe next year. lol

Homemade pickles are one of the few things I'd trade ammo for.

You sure? My .22 stash is a little lacking right now. Here are some of what I have left from last year. Had to stash them away under the bed because we ran out of shelf space.

I just finished 3 days of canning bread and butter pickles and jalepeno peppers. Can't wait to shoot next Sunday and plan to bring blueberry muffins.

I just canned nearly a bushel of apples.

Wonderful taste of summer in the winter months.

She has a custom recipe or which does she follow?

I prefer apple butter...canning takes a lot of time but the flavor/taste is worth it! I wont ever buy store bought jam/jelly/apple butter!

I have found canned items for the most part do get better with time, to a point.

I have not seen a recipe require time to sit, though.

The pickle recipe I got from a friend said wait 24hrs...but I can see that just to get the flavors to soak into the cucumbers...jelly/jam etc doesn't need that IMO...just some time to cool and "set/jell"
