Hey...Russia is out to get us...and the AK-47 is evil. As a young man I was taught to hate our red brethren. Then...I watched Red Dawn. Now how am I supposed to recover from that. Russians will always be evil to me and the AK-47 should only be used when Russians take over your high school and you kill one of the invaders and use his AK-47 against him...then you score with the chick from Ferris Buehler's Day Off.

Oh...and another thing...if Powers Boothe gets shot out of the sky and tries to join your Wolverine Club...just swat him to the ground. He'll only get to use one one-liner before dying after taking down one tank....one tank! Any hero worth his weight in eighties salt would take down at least three.

It is portrayed in the media as the weapon of our nation's bad guys from countries like north Korea to rebels all over the world, terrorists, and crime.

It is a symbol of revolution and goes against every fiber of Americanism which is why people hate it.

Of course the above aforementioned reasons have no effect on me on why I like and own them.

because it has long been the weapon of our enemy, it is viewed as the tool of the wicked, an implement of evil if you will...the general public is so ignorant to firearms that they believe anything, and never question what their told.

edit: it is funny to me how video games and movies always depict russia as the enemy of the united states...yet they have been our allies in both world wars...we have never had a direct conflict with them...but for some reason, their just out to get us...

Yea if you don't count the multiple times we were minutes away from destroying each others civilizations...

Or the countless proxy wars during the cold war in which our goals were to actively help their enemies kill as many of them as possible and vice versa.
All those dead Russians in Afghanistan?

Most American's experience with an Ak47 is seeing some crazy African rebel in the newspaper. Most of the civil wars over there are fought with ak47s, so in the mind of the average person it is associated with conflict and civil wars.

again though...i see all of that as just two dudes in eachothers faces, just waiting for the other to throw the first punch and scared to do it themselves...

russians are crazy, but their not suicidal...its the japanese you gotta worry about in that department...:innocent0

I would not say revolution is against every fiber of Americanism.
Is that not how we now have an America?

+1 for the AK being great at what it does.

I agree with it in principle but if you talk to the average American on the street today they think their country is the government, not them, therefore revolution scares them and you must be a right-wing radical for even suggesting the idea. We are not the country that we were during the founder's period. Most are sheep and accept whatever comes at them, too numb, stupid, or ignorant to look beyond their noses. If it wasn't for the bill of rights we would have been a European-style socialist country a long time ago.

But to not derail the thread further, I was talking from the Cold War perspective where when we were propping up unpopular regimes from the enemy who always used AK's to overthrow them. Because of the Cold War/Vietnam you have a lot of old-timers who can't stand the AK and fall in-line with the "bash the AK" crowd who are honestly no better than anti's who appeal to emotion rather than fact as to why they hate them. Then you have military both current and retired :patriot::sign11: who have grown up around the AR and use that as their basis to judge every other rifle in existence and since the AK is pretty much what the enemy they faced usually uses them, although they will use anything that they can get their hands on, it continues the stigma around the AK.

You may be on to something. JW carried many different guns along the way. But I've never seen a pic of him with an AK in his hands.

That must mean AK's are bad? Not.

The AK is like the Model T was in America. Cheap to build on a line, reliable for it's purpose, easy for the everyman to use and maintain. It wasn't a Rolls Royce, but it did ok for it's owners.
