From Stephen P. Halbrook, author of the book Target Switzerland:

Shortly before World War I, the German Kaiser was the guest of the Swiss government to observe military maneuvers. The Kaiser asked a Swiss militiaman: "You are 500,000 and you shoot well, but if we attack with 1,000,000 men what will you do?" The soldier replied: "We will shoot twice and go home."

No one's invaded the US in recent memory either.

Several hundred million firearms and two oceans are a big help.
On the other hand, we've invaded Canada and Mexico. We'd all be better off if we'd US-ified them, I suspect. Nice stretch of territory, and holding the line at the Panama Canal would make for a short border to patrol.

Yes, I know there's stuff between Mexico and Panama. But it would make sense to keep moving south until we secured the canal. Strategic imperative, right?

The Swiss have no problem with filling their cheese with holes, and it is not too bad. I hate to think of what they would do to someone they do not like.

And they guard a nation-state in the middle of Italy, seriously, do not screw around with these guys.
