Why are sig 220's so much cheaper than 226, 228, 229?

The 220 is an older design. Also the 220 is a single stack.

Those would be the only reasons I can think of. They are fine guns. The 220 was designed as a .45acp. The 226 was designed off of the 220 but as a 9mm double stack.
They are the original SIG "modern" pistol. The first were 9mm and had a heel mag release. They are the base that SIG used to become this "legendary" company. Prior to the 220 few people in the US heard of the company.

Ask the Swiss military if their first P75's, aka P220, were 9x19 or .45ACP.

I dont remember ever seeing a 220 being sold for more than $450. Thats still hundreds cheaper than your average 226/229 price
I believe 220's are less desired than say 229's and 226's. Then again I don't really see any shops just giving away 220's so where are you looking?

You're looking at used 220s, and new 226/229s.
The 220 is arguably the best non-1911 .45ACP ever invented. It's the same basic design as the 226/229/etc.

just when surfing through classified ads. And youre right about the 220s being less desired. Thats exactly what I was trying to figure out.

I bought a used P220 from one of our IP's three years ago and paid $489 and that was a good price then. It was like new (and still is) when I bought it.

You're right. I should of done my homework. I knew they made 9mms I just thought the .45 came first for some reason. It's definitely a far better gun in .45.

The 9x19 P220/P75 is one of the most accurate service handguns ever devised. It's a superlative pistol.

I used to have a Browning BDA which is a rebadged SIG P220 in 9mm. It was a really nice gun, but kind of big for a single stack 9mm.
