Nice day on the water but my radar took a dump on us. Break Out Another Thousand (or 2)

Not fish this weekend but crabs. Some still call it fishing.

So I mentioned my son is willing to help anyone on the pier. On Friday a 14-15 year old boy was there fishing, and my son hooked him up with some gear. He Spooled him up with some heavy braided line, steel leader, and good hooks.
Saturday night my son didn’t go out, because it was calling for rain, and Saturday nights are crazy busy on the pier.
Late Saturday night he went to check out what was happening at the pier. He can’t stay away long, lol. The young boy was there fishing. As my son was leaving, the boy hooked into a shark. My son realized the boy, nor anyone on the pier had a net! My son told him to just keep it in the water and he’d go get his. A guy on the pier told my son he didn’t need a net, he’d pick it up by it tail and bring him in. My son told him it wasn’t a good idea, and the guy got pissed. He told my son “you don’t know what you’re doing” My son stepped back and let the guy do “his thing”.
Well, the shark bit the guy on his ankle. my son told me the guy ended up getting 17 stitches. My son got a little chuckle out of it. Here’s a video someone took of it happening.

My son said it didn’t bleed right away, but a few feet down the pier you could track him easily.

Well, that is fantastic! I would have loved to have witnessed that interaction. Happy to see it on video, too. Play stupid games...

Surf fishing this past week in DE. I had 4 kingfish and a spot and then there was this Cownose Ray. Took me an hour to land him. He nearly spooled me twice. It was on my lighter 9' rod of course. He had a wingspan of about 4' and I got him on a kingfish rig with a #6 hook. Probably 50-60 lbs.

Went out with my son today. Caught one nice sea bass, a few keepers and a lot of smalls. Son ended up catching everything on a bait rod even pulled off a double with a keeper on the little thing.

Got out to Benedict on Tuesday....finder showed the bottom loaded with what a assume were catfish....not a bite ...hit all the edges just catching a releasing perch and small catfish. Ended up catching a few Reds. All small, but still fun. Pretty little fish. Was using a small baitcaster to toss beetlespins.

Went out with my neighbor yesterday afternoon/evening for a little striper action. We fished the Patapsco. The fish are still there. We got out at a low tide which sucked but as the evening progressed so did the action. We jigged and did pretty good just nothing very big.

I believe they are called Ribbonfish
    We tossed it back

Edit: I see someone already did a better ID

The ribbonfish is pretty good for eating, close to Hake fish. But a lot of small bones. Last week I was at OBX and we got plenty of them. I pan fried some and smoked the rest with cold smoke generator, appeared delicious.
