There are a few exceptions, although those are typically from Southern or Western states.

Some of those D congress-folks get away with straying from party ideals with the excuse that their constituents wouldn't put up with it, such as southern/western D's voting no on gun control. It would be hard to put forth the argument that MD would vote out a senator who voted for tighter control. There just aren't enough 2A supporters voting yet to visibly be an issue. Hopefully we get there.

I'm getting motivated to write Babs and Cardin to voice my opposition to the Iran deal.

On Babs' website, after answering her threshold question of whether you are clergy or military, she has a drop-down list of topics that you might be writing about. Interestingly, it includes Afghanistan and Iraq, but NOT IRAN. Huh? Are she and her staff living in yesteryear, or doesn't she want to deal with it? Does she read the news? Another reason?

You can write them, however they will simply tell you they know better.

They don't represent you. Or maybe you have already figured that out.
