The winner is accused of lying about the catch.

Polygraph exams were also administered to Heasley’s ship captain and shipmates. The tournament officials have told the court “not one person on defendant Heasley’s vessel, ‘Kallianassa,’ passed a polygraph exam.”

Md.’s White Marlin Open claims winner lied about big catch

I never understood how a tournament like this could hold up on the honor system. I had no idea that the winners were subjected to a lie detector test.

3 million in prize money and the honor system is used....even for the lower slower of the shore that seems a bit odd.

How reliable are polygraphs? Seems like something only as good as the operator on day of use.

I don't know how else you keep honesty in check, I guess event data recorders/cameras on the boat pointed at the fighting chair is one way.

My neighbor read on a fishing forum that 3 of the crew said they had lines in at 8:15, but I have yet to see any article saying that.

i enjoy hunting and fishing but really don't care for the various tournaments, trophy hunting, etc. at least IMO, these should be more personal activities and game should be taken for food and not for competition. that's what golf, shooting, baseball and football etc are for.

Well I would imagine if they read the tournaments contract that mandated passing a polygraph, that they don't get the pay out? Kinda like a contract?
