    Hi, All,
Some of you probably remember me.
My friend the shop owner is now considering a handgun. He prefers a new one just so he knows the history of it. Where to buy a new handgun in or near Montgomery County?
There used to be a Gun Shack in Rockville. Has it moved to Mt. Airy?
Where can he find a shooting range which doesn't require a membership? We used to go to one in Upper Marlboro. Is it still there? Is there any place closer?
    Thank you.

Engage Armament is in Rockville, and a very popular store. Check the IP section for their address.

I would strongly suggest Engage Armament or Atlantic Guns - both located in Rockville.

Alternatively you can go to the Gun Rack in Burtonsville (decent selection, moderately higher prices) but a lot of people run into problems with poor service.

Shooters Discount in Mt Airy, didn't have normal business hrs when I bought a revolver from him a couple of years ago. He was only open a couple of evenings a week when he is working gun shows.

    Another question:
what would be recommended for a small business owner to keep at his shop for safety. He wants something small and powerful.
    Thank you.

In all seriousness, a basic 12 ga with an 18.5" barrel like a Mossberg 500, Maverick 88, Remington 870 etc. is a great choice. Easy to use, intimidating, hits hard, useful against multiple attackers. What more do you need? Handguns can be carried on the person, so they're always within reach, but require more training to use effectively.

    Emily also?

Never spoke with her - every time I've visited she was looking after Brutus.

Even my wife enjoyed her experience the one time she decided to come in with me; she says she'll come again the next time I go if the timing works out. Unfortunately I can't say aces about Atlantic - they can get rude when they get swamped (which is understandable, but still).

Engage Armament is the shop to deal with. Fair prices, very friendly and knowledgeable staff. It's my shop of choice for everything firearms related.

NRA RANGE in Fairfax is open to the public. 20 dollars an hour for non NRA Members to shoot. 15 an hour for NRA members.
